Why modernist geography

I know it may be a bit far too deep into development to pose this question, but why does the map depict contemporary geography?

Pella was at the time considerably closer to sea (almost at the coast). That was one of the reasons why the Hellenes could, for instance, so efficiently preform land invasions into the heart of Macedon.

As we have said before if there are places where you think geography looks wrong for the time period please do bring it to our attention with some idea for how it should be instead and why you think so.
We are and have been actively looking for how to best cover the geography of the times.

They already changed the Mesopotamian coastline as we saw in one of the provious DDs.
As a map modder myself I can tell you: We start with modern maps, because they are easier to find. And THAN we start to search for ancient/medieval geography and change the map to fit it. We can't start with ancient geography but have to add it manually later. And it's a hard work since nobody can now all river systems and which lakes are modern etc.
