The more I`ve played Stellaris and Hearts of Iron 4, it has dawned on me that a truelly excellent game Cold War would be the combination of the two of them. Stellaris has a political system which HOI4 lacks. While HOI4 has the warfare aspect that could almost be directly transferred into a cold war setting.

Anyone agrees or disagrees?

Rather than disagreeing or agreeing, I would like to know more. I don't really understand why Stellaris' political system would be excellent for a Cold War game. I'm not sure what you're refering to when you say "political system". Are you talking about the ethics? But then, why would we want ethics when a Cold War game would be about only two of them?

What I think is done beautifully in Stellaris is the ethics thing as you describe. If those were to married together with political parties of HOI4 then you would have a very interesting system.

A Cold War game would not just be about to of them. The Soviets would have one combination. United States another combination in contrast to the Soviet. South Africa another combination. If these combinations could reflect parties, this would make clandestine operations much more interesting such as staging coups or boosting parties.

A Cold War game could never work as HOI4. It`s a time period that stretches to far. So the logical move would have the Cold War game being played more as EU4 rather than HOI4. But I think Stellaris in some regards have better mechanics.

It certainly could be interesting, especially HoI4's world tension system would be very applicable - only in this case overly high tension should also prevent certain aggressive actions to be taken as both sides did try to avoid escalating things into WW3.

anyway, a cold war scenario grand strategy game would be awesome.

you could play as one of the main powers, Russia or USA, or try to play as a minor nation siding with someone or trying your luck alone, most of the game would be this thriller, fear to avoid the nuclear war.
