Malta (JAI), previously Jalayrids, currently doesn't have access to generic Italian missions. Why so? Was it just overlooked, or there is some reason behind that?

I mean, seeing that Renaissance can't spawn on Malta, maybe there's some local uniquness that doesn't allow Maltese to be considered as Italian?

Really? Then why is it in Latin culture group?
Culture is a lot more than language. While Maltese is indeed Semitic (like Arabic, Hebrew and Amharic) the island have been heavily influenced by its position in the middle of the Mediterranean. Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs and Normans all controlled the islands for a substantial time each which created a unique mixed culture and architecture with elements from all of them. Since the Normans, in turn, ruled the multicultural Kingdom of Sicily at the time it got Italian influxes as well. Putting it in the same group as Sicilian makes sense since mose of the mention groups held Sicily as well at roughly the same time so they would have developed similarly.

As a footnote, Maltese is the only Semitic language that is written with the Latin alphabet.

Interesting, thank you!

Wouldn't it make sense for Malta to have Italian Minor missions, hence the Sicilian influence?

Going through those missions, I'd say they're a decent fit. Maybe add the naval branch from piratical missions with rewritten text instead of the generic military branch. There was a lot of privateering in Maltese history, exclusively against Muslims.

I recently watched a nice video on Maltese history and they had quite the cultural golden age from 1600-1850 with marvellous architecture so that fits Italy perfectly. This was in no small part helped by the Ottomans not daring to attack again after their failed siege in 1565 where they lost more than half of the largest army they had gathered to that point and Malta in turn lost a third of its army and population.

Trouble is, its golden age lasted during the Knights Hospitallier control over the island, who already have much flavor to them.

Guess the potential "Duchy of Malta" having Italian minors missions is good enough.

It would be really interesting if they got their own unique missions but I don't see that happening given barely anyone plays them and they don't even have cores at game start. But as Oporto says they should at least have generic Italian missions.
