My computer's slow as F, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't be playing EU III all day if I could. The graphics are spectacular, the provinces are many, the oppertunities boundless!!

Bugs that never get fixed. Fixes that break as many items as the improve. Paradox not testing their games. AI 'improvements' that are nothing more than cheats, not improvements.

I have always liked EU3. I don't understand why people go "fuck EU3 it sucks" while still begging for new games.

Don't want to put myself on the shoes of moderators here, but I suppose you should be careful with your language.

As for the topic, the game is not losing its clout. Only the predecessor was so good it was really difficult to beat and in EU3, on top of a better event engine, some design decisions were not well received from an important proportion of the fans.

The lack of individual AIs for each country, making them have a particular behaviour is right now the biggest shortcomming of the game.

As for your three points, I am a firm believer the graphics were spectacular, if we were in 1993. The provinces are many, but that is hardly a measure for anything. The oportunities are boundless like in EU2 and that is one of the core aspects of the EU franchise.

I don't think EU is losing its clout. It changed more than just a bit and some serious mistakes were made at the design level, but the core engine is great in the possibilities it gives, if common sense and plausibility apply.

I rarely play any games other than EU3:NA right now. Even though some very nice mods for my other favorite BF2 have been released recently I've barely touched it.

You know, coming from Medieval Two, I'd say that this game is infinitely better. The AI alone is so much more un-stupidly-stupid. The campgain game is so much better, even though the time is limited. You can actually be a fairly realistic minor power without amassing 400,000 florins, as I personally have in...um...in um...Medieval Two.

That game is so easy. As England, you can run over Scotland and unite the British Isles in like only ten turns. You can ally with France and the two of you just march over the HRE, then maybe some Spanish Wars. The only annoying things are the Crusades, because by the time your army gets to Byzantium, the Crusade is over and the pope hates you for not helping.

Medieval 2.

I lost faith in its AI when my army of 400 cavalry was attacked by 2000... pavise crossbowmen mixed with catapult and trebuchet crews.

I would not call that a fight... more like harvest of 2000 pathetic lives!

The AI always did dumb stuff, like attacking my Northern France stronghold instead of my scattered French towns (as England), with huge armies of peasants which were mowed down before they got their pathetic siege weapons to the walls. If that didn't work, I'd send mass calvary to run the over. And the fire arrows special is so gay, is barely changes accuracy, but 1-hit-kills like any unit.

Yeah, I own MII also. It's not that bad. The mods make it better though.

Regarding EUIII, the game is the best I've seen yet. Provinces are better used and proportioned out, and the graphics are like, the best of the age.

I'm actually going to load it up now, and try it with these new video drivers nvidia's been putting out recently.

I'm not a veteran EU-player. Before EU3, I played HoI2 and CK a while, so that's how I got to other Paradox-games.

But I like EU-NA a lot. It's one of the games I play very frequently. I'm currently in a Saxony game and jost gotten into 1701 and it's been a very versatile game. I have had decades that I was at peace and trading. During that time I did some diplo-annexing. I have had decades of war and I conquered some lands. I did some colonizing in the mid 1600's, Cuba is now mine. Took me a while to annex Lüneburg to connect my main lands to Hamburg. In the end I gave up on diplo-annexing and just conquered Lüneburg.
And lately I had a succession war. well, I was the target, Burgundy and Great Britain fought over me, with the likes of Aragon and Portugal on they're side. Burgundy did very little and the war dragged on because I didn't want to fight. In the end the revolt risk in my lands grew a lot, because the war kept on and on and on. So first I eliminated Portugal by conquering the European mainland completely and half the North-American colonies. After that I attacked the British island and occupied it half, before there came a white peace. I was lucky there, no personal union is a big victory.

To most of you that may be an "ordinary" game, but to me it's the very first versatile game in which I did and experienced many different things. This also is the first game I'm going to finish. As I said, I'm not a veteran, never played the predecessors and before september I had only a couple of EU3 games played that mostly didn't even last 100 years (never really took the time). But I enjoy it now. A lot.

Oh please, don't start that again. I mean mtw2 vs EU.

I came to EUIII after i was dissapointed in mtwII. It's was unfinished game, dumb AI and even best mods was unable to fix all that mess.

And what i get? I spent whole 3 months exclusively with EUIII just to realize, that it's nowhere better. Thats not better AI. Easiness of vassalization drives me mad, everytime it's happen. And list of stupid things i hate about EUIII can be extended forever, so i am not gonna bother you

Now i returned to MTWII and fully enjoy new version of Stainless Steel mod with some amazing improvements in CAI etc..

Please stop referring to MTWII in that boards, atleast people in twcenter don't refer to EU that much. It's totally different games.

And newsflash for you - both games suck AI wise. Both games have same level of difficulty and have their pros and cons.

If you guys dislike EU3 soo much... why don't you move on to another game?
Why do hang around these forums when you hate the game?

You should ofcourse utter your discontent and are welcome to.
But if it sucks so much why bother??

The only thing I really dislike is some cheats for the AI. Like no troop maintenance, and it's huge armies.

Imagine yourself playing magna mundi, and france throws on your face an army of more than 37,000 mercs. Because you know, the AI throws everything, even their toilet on you, when at war.

And there should be more diplomatic options for peace resolutions, like "you give me that provinces 1 2 3, and I give you provinces 4 5 6."

The game is a good simulation. So good that I get upset when I see something is missing.

You're right that it's unsightly to disparage competitive games on different boards, but MTWII is a "big name" so it draws a lot of attention, while I imagine the MTWII audience isn't quite as homogeneously intrigued in the EUIII-type experience.

Yes, mtw is a big name, but it's big for a purpose. I was slightly offended by some posts, that even registered here ;) I didnt post single bad thing about EUIII here or there, so i dislike when someone bashing some MTW sides, particulary AI, while i found AI of EUIII average at best aswell.

But on contrary, i dont come to MTW boards to bash EUIII, although twcenter has subforum about that game, which i participate too.

I mean... peace? :)

Btw, that boards filled by depression posts, so it's just another sign, that it's not everything going well in Europa Universalis III currently.
