Hello!
Can anyone tell me what are the conditions that activate the 'Educate Child' diplomacy option? I thought you could choose the guardian of any child of your vassals or court (age 6-15)?

I just started a game as King of Norway from Dec 26, 1066 and the Educate Child option is absent from the diplomacy options of several children of my vassals. Only if I select their liege (typically father), I can educate the child that way.

Thanks! :)

Asking the liege is fine as a workaround but I have done it in the past directly from the child's character which is more convenient.

Edit: Ok I guess it's a glitch after all. Thanks for all the help!

As far as i know, asking directly to the child is actually a shortcut to asking the childs liege, and it sends you to the liege's diplomacy screen. However, since no button actually shows up it may be a bug. Can you send a screenshot and your checksum(start menu, bottom left corner. You'll see the version and 4 letters there, best look at it when you first open the game.)

Sure my checksum is 1.08 JQDK. I play through Steam, no expansions or DLC except what came with the game.

Thanks again, doesn't seem to be changing with restarts but I can live with it.

There is no "Educate Children" botton for children outside your own court, iirc.

Strange, everything seems to be the same. Also, as i said when you ask the child, you are actually asking the childs liege.
You sure nothing changed between the two games? NOTHING at all?
EDIT: Wait, they have different guardians. So maybe it is because the first childs guardian is outside your realm, while the second one is within your realm?
Also, maybe one of the counts is your direct vassal, while the other one is a vassal of a vassal of yours? Not much i know, but everything is possible, right?

Thanks again, doesn't seem to be changing with restarts but I can live with it.

I'm guessing you married a landowner outside your own duchies/kingdoms ect, and for one reason or another the said landowner got control of the child (I've had this happen when i married someone and then went to war against them whilst my wife was pregnant), the only workaround I know of is to do some savegame editing, easiest way of doing this is finding your char id (at the top of the savegame) then look up name and date of birth for the child in question then hit ctrl f and write date= (the date is without zeroes in front, ie 1066.9.15=) find the one that corresponds to the name of your child, find host and then change that to your char id (you find this at the top of your savegame, under player= ect), oh hand protip, open it in WORDPAD
Hope this helps!

There is no "Educate Children" botton for children outside your own court, iirc.
The option should be there for vassals' children too. The 'normal' 3rd screenshot I posted is an example.

Also, as i said when you ask the child, you are actually asking the childs liege.

EDIT: Wait, they have different guardians.
The problem child's guardian is my direct vassal so I don't think that's it either. You're right in the end you're asking the liege so maybe it's more correct to do it that way anyway. And maybe the shortcut just bugs out sometimes.

Anyways I'm content to let this one rest and move on, thanks everyone!
