When Hitler and Mussolini made the Anticomintern Pacl one of them (can't remember who)claimed that the axis around which Euroepan politics now revolved was that of Berlin-Rome.

Actually it was Berlin-Rome-Tokyo
you are right.Originally posted by TMO
But Japan didn`t enter the anticomintern until 1941 did they? Just prior to Barbarossa and about the same time they signed the non-agression pact with the USSR.
I think the original name AXIS refered to Berlin/Rome, and when Japan joined the name just remained. Not sure though...

The new axis is Iran - North Korea - Ireland or some.
I've read that the name was choosen by Hungarian Prime Minister gen. Gyula Gombos.Originally posted by arc3371
It was neither Hitler nor Mussolini who first called it the axis but the hungarian foreign affairs minister

Hehe can you see Bush saying Ireland is an axis of evil?
"Oh dey is Cath-olick? NeberMind! We frinds!"
I am still not sure why Bush wants a war with Iraq right now, when Isreal is picking on other nations.
