Why is my colony not growing

Screen? There should be a small gain every month (around 2-3 with +25). I had around 40 people monthly with +125 as Portugal.
it finally started growing after getting the colony rush event but its stood at 35 for many years
Check if you are colonizing jungle (or arid). It gives a malus, about -25 colonists and -% settler chance.
yeah its jungle colonist chance is 0 and im getting settlers only by modifiers and events
It's not worth colonizing then. Try to get a colony in a province without those maluses or wait until you have more Settle growth (Exploration, Expansion, Diplo tech, Missions, Events or Policies)
alright crisis over its going well now...but that was a situation that i didnt know about ...i guess i never colonized with such a small population behind...im malacca i own most of the malay peninsula and about half of sumatra
tropical provinces really take a LONG time to colonize early game, try to find some stuff that doesnt have the modifier (almost impossible in SE asia though). Also, you get a bonus if you own a neighbouring province
They are tropical now.
OP: if you have the range get Deigo Garcia its not tropical and 0 natives, it will also slow down the colonials. The get Bourban, Mede (the island north of it) and the other island near it.
I always keep a couple of tropical provinces colonized without a settler present until the settler chance reaches 10-15%. It works out in the end. If I have two settlers, 2-4 regular provinces and 2 tropical provinces, I'll colonize the tropical ones and move the settlers to two of the regular provinces. Now, it obviously costs more than two provinces at a time, but you end up claiming and recieving the tropical provinces far sooner than if you ignored them.
Also, when I play colonial, the primary objective is blocking Spain, Portugal and England, so taking the Indian Ocean islands is an enormous priority for me. Madagascar is a pain, but Castile can have fun trying to colonize Indonesia from the Cape of Africa. And if they try, it's war.
When I played as Spain the really hard part was keeping France out of the Easter Islands.
I guess what I'm saying is that it's always worth colonizing any province. Just don't waste your settlers on 1% chance provinces.

say again? i know where diego garcia is but i have no idea about the other ones...maybe you spelled them wrong
Sorry I cant remember the exact names, 2 islands to the east of Madagascar and one to the north.
