Why is france so happy about this situation?

+78 war enthusiasm from their army at half their force limit? With all their home provinces occupied? I don't even understand how their war exhaustion is so low.

They joined this war against me, but I've occupied enough of their provinces to gain 96% warscore. But they still refuse to accept peace offers above 20%, because their war enthusiasm is just ENORMOUS as they apparently feel that their remaining 34k men (hidden somewhere in the fog of war of their ~10 african colonies, because I sure can't find them) put them in a just amazing position.

What I don't understand is, when I had occupied something like half of france, their war enthusiasm was at low, but as I occupied more provinces, and killed more of their soldiers, it kept rising, to the point where they now refuse all sensible peace deals...

On serious note, This is odd. At first, I though it's because of Alliance military strength. Upon looking at your screensho, It is "France military strength" that give them +78 war Enthusiasm.

It look like a bug to me.

So France is occupied by the germans and they're hiding in the colonies? It's WAD then. You just didn't realize that the french ruler is currently De Gaulle.

Just occupy Paris for some time and the Vichy Regime event will fire.

There is a bug with the military strength calculation. I've been having trouble with it being negative, despite outnumber opposition forces more than 2 to 1.

I raised a bug a while back, but haven't received any confirmation around whether it is a problem they are looking into or not

I've also noticed that one of the major War Enthusiasm factors, "X is making Gains" is only applied to the War Leader, hence why Russia has Low War Enthusiasm.

Really the entire War Score and War Enthusiasm system needs to be revamped. In Particular, winning battles should provide War Score against the country you are winning against, not just the War Leader, and War Score should directly impact War Enthusiasm for all partners.

This would help make wars more limited, thus you wouldn't need to completely occupy a country to knock it out of the war.

You are facing la grande armée, keep in mind that France was an unstopable war machine during this period. Napoleon is probably expecting to see a huge uprising which will surely help his reconquest of France and later his world conquest.

Side question: How did Russia got territories in France in your Portugal game?

Interesting. It seems that war enthusiasm from army scales proportionally with army size, however occupied provinces are capped at -40.

I had the same error. I've just force-released UPCA and wanted to ally them, but it looks like it calculated badly. I think when one month passed It worked just fine and it calculated OK...

While you're at it, I think war exhaustion needs looking at.

I don't think it is scaling correctly for large nations, as I never see large nations with war exhaustion above ~5; even when they've been blocked for years, have had their manpower completely depleted, their armies utterly destroyed, and all of their provinces occupied.

The capitalist Germans, in their occupation, did all the reforms that the socialist France never dared or could execute, thus improving life for everybody who works his fair share, and disbanding fat unions that strangle productvity.

Of course the French are happy about that.

For future reference, there are instructions on the bug report forum for how to deliver a Ironman bug report. It's not at all difficult, but you are right that you need to do it before you continue playing.
