Why is everything so... cartoony?

What's important is that we are debating the map and OOB and not sitting in Stalingrad as part of the 6th Army on February 2nd of 1943 waiting for Paulus to surrender while we freeze.

If I recall correctly, Paulus surrendered on January 31th. Just saying The southern pocket fought on until Februari 2nd though.

I do feel like the game is cartoonish or been gumped down from part three. Anyway I don't think I will like playing Hearts of Iron Series anymore, it just doesn't cut it or feel like the real thing. The only one is close enough that earn its name would be Darkest Hours. I may grab this game when it is on sale like ten bucks, just doesn't feel popular anymore.

The only game I like better than HoI Series, would be Supreme Ruler 1936 or the upgrade. So sadly to see this going down hills.

We've all voiced our opinions on the game. There are things that everyone would like to be tweaked a little bit, or have decided to live with because we like the game overall. So you decide to complain over and over, despite few people agreeing with you. Yeah, we get it - you like the old map. About a year and a half to two years after screen shots, you are either bringing this up again, or are needlessly complaining about it over and over in this thread.

The map cannot be changed now, and so you will have to live with it or don't play it.

So if someone opens a thread about what they think is the cartoonish appearance of HOI IV what must I do? Just agree?


Tell me what you would like me to do and if I can accommodate your wishes I will do so.


I will point out that I have not brought up the map or even the counters for a long while mainly because I don’t have to and I fully expect not to have to bring them up any time in the future but if someone does open another thread about the map or the counters I will endeavour not to upset you too much, I may not even bother to reply.


Anyhow its the Battle Plans I am more interested in now because if that is crap there is no point changing the map.

Matter of personal taste. I wonder why this is so hard for people to understand.

Personally, I kinda disliked the washed-out colours of HOI3. They didn't really give me a depressing WWII feel as much as they just felt... well, washed-out. I experimented with adding saturation to a screenshot, and personally I was pleased with the result.

Looks far more "alive" and vibrant. Much more engaging.

Having said that, I also fully respect that the above approach would be off-putting to some people. Which is what it boils down to, personal taste. PDX has to pick something, and no matter what they choose, someone is going to get upset. Certain people (you know who you are) very dramatically, loudly, and patronisingly/condescendingly so.

Which is why I never understand how threads like this, discussing personal taste, can reach 80+ posts. It's like a heated argument over which soda is the best one of Coke or Pepsi.
We live in 2015. HOI4 will have Steam Workshop compatibility. Dislike an art approach, spend two seconds downloading a mod.

I don't expect you to reply. Your point is noted and was to begin with. I don't think carrying on with it will amount to much. I understand the desire to post a different opinion and no one is stopping you. The best you can do at this point is plan to make a mod for the graphical style you want, or give your support to those that will work on it.

Indeed. I think tastes can change anyway. The first few times I played HOI3 I hated the aesthetic, but now I quite enjoy it. I'm not sure about the new map, but see no point in twisting my knickers over it until I've had a few run throughs to see how it plays. Some people though seem to let everyone know that those who have a different preference aren't "serious wargamers"

People just need to calm down and be civil. There's no need to insult anyone or get angry. No one here made any of the decisions, Paradox did. Paradox will ignore hate and rants and arguments. They listen and respond to well thought out points. If you want something to change, it really doesn't matter if everyone in the forum agrees with you, only if Paradox does. Very little will change from now to launch but you can still give your opinions, just be nice about it. You don't have to tone down your opinions or how you feel but you do have to respect everyone else's rights to.

Lots of people get this wrong. Freedom of speech is the right to say what you want (mostly) without reprecussions from the State. It protects you from being thrown in prison for saying you dislike the President of your country, but it won't keep you from being kicked off of private web forums, blogs, etc.
