Paradox has made it pretty clear that sometimes, for the sake of gameplay, absolute adherence to history is not preferred.

Why is Danzig polish?

so a polish vassal with a puppetregime from the reich? would be cool, and would open up the game a bit more for modders. but i guess that could break the game in so many ways...
Is it just me, or did you not include the "are you joking part" in your original post? Do edits appear not only in the original post but in quotation boxes from other users too?
Quotations contain whatever was in them at the time of quotation regardless of changes. This is most clearly seen when someone deletes a post but its content remains in subsequent quotes.

When a post was edited, it appears on the lower right of the post. Though you have a few seconds/minutes to edit a recent post before that appear.
From legal point of view you would require landlords consent rather then roommates. Roommates consent is more of acourtesy.

If you want independent danzig, then perhaps a independed rheinland, or deny german army access to some provinces... Some thinks are just too small and have to be ignored in a big project for the sake of simplicity. Such things belongs in mods, when people focused on one thing only take care of it.

Well in Hoi4 until Germany takes the Rhineland national focus they can't put their armies in the Rheinland.

What about Tangiers, administered jointly by UK, France and Spain? Or Hong Kong, only leased from China, never annexed in perpetuity? Do the warlord states carry out diplomatic actions in their own names? Burma part of the Raj? No Egypt? Many situations where simple game mechanics don't quite fit the historical realities.

Not in any tenancy agreement I've ever heard of in UK. You need the landlord's consent to sublet to a stranger, you don't need it to share your home with members of your family and friends. Not even if they informally agree with you to share the rent payment.

That's how it works in the US, the Landlord has complete control over who is given permission to live in the apartment. After they are given permission, however, it can be a pain to get them back out even if they don't pay rent for a while.
This, of course, doesn't include dependents and spouses. A girlfriend, however, is just a girlfriend until they get married. So they need separate permission.
So Versailles gave the mental girlfriend access to the apartment, and the tenant couldn't get her out even when they broke up. Before she took the kitchen scissors and stabbed the poor tenant. Before going on the rampage, including attacking some of her neighbours just for opening their doors and enquiring what all the noise was about.

I hope that developers at least in Hearts of Iron IV will get Pytalova finally right and put it as a territory of Latvian instead of Soviet and rename it to Abrene!

"By the Latvian–Soviet Peace Treaty of 1920, a part of Ostrovsky Uyezd, including Pytalovo, was passed to Latvia. In 1925, Latvians renamed it Jaunlatgale, which it was known as until 1938, when the name was changed to Abrene. In 1933, it was granted town status."
Population in 2010 was 5,826.
Looks way too small to be either a state or VP province.

the FCD was independent, but in a customs union with poland. not that this really meant anything geopolitically since the ethnic makeup was heavily german and political makeup after 1933 was entirely Nazi (who unsurprisingly, hated the Polish residents). the Poles did threaten war with Danzig once, in the Danzig crisis. part of what lead to Danzig or War.
while part of the purpose of Danzig was to give poland a seaport, that didn't really pan out and nearby Gdynia became the main polish port of call- economically surpassing danzig in 1932.
the polish army had no real presence other than embassy guards. whereas the police were pro-germany and backed by the SS.
poland never had anything more that the barest glimmer of technical control, danzig was called danzig and not gdansk for a reason, and danzig only stayed independent purely because of polish threats.
if anything, it'd be best to have the FCD on the map, because under the right circumstance, germany could become the defending ally in that war.

When the Game starts (1936), Pytalovo/Abrene was a part of Latvia and as this game is based on history and reality, not some fantasy, then yes it is SIGNIFICANCE to get it right!

Inspired by the autonomy system in EU4, I suppose you could make Danzig its own state and give it various penalties while controlled by Poland, to simulate that it's a free city with its own autonomy.
