Why is Austria joining this war?

So I am playing as Ambrosian Republic Milan atm. I have a casus belli, I am part of the Empire, the enemy is part of the Empire, the year is 1476, we are both Catholic, and just to confirm there is only the first reform passed.

Why is Austria joining when I am allied with them? It says "They are a member of the Empire and Austria is the Emperor." Now I would understand if I didn't have a claim but for some reason, even with claims Austria would join? Seems odd.

You have the conquest CB selected, right?

Emperor will defend a prince in any of these situations:
- No CB is used.
- The attacked prince is a free city.
- The attacker is not a prince.

Because screenshots give information you are not sharing because you don't know they might play a role.

Give as much information as possible. And yes, screenshots can give a lot of information.
Because it's quite possible you are overlooking something.

And now (because of the limited information we have) we just have to guess what's going on ...
So please post a screenshot

You sure Austria isn't allied to them too? I've noticed quite often Austria AI will ally most of the Italians when a player is there.. The other possibility is a guarantee if they're rivalled to France.

Most likely you're just not selecting the Conquest CB tbh.

Because the fact that you don't know what it causing something implies that you don't know what information to include in your description of events that might help us figure it out. A screenshot might very well include a key piece of information that you are not aware is important.

So I sort of think I figured out the issue. Basically, I just let time tick by for a few years and the modifier went away despite NOTHING changing. I'm chocking it up to a bug if I'm completely honest with you.

I'm chalking it to your having missed something, but I'm glad it worked itself out.
