The blindness could easily represent cataracts, something Indian, Persian and Arab doctors during the Middle Ages were quite able to fix. We often think, when we design seemingly "supernatural" events, on how the situation would be perceived and interpreted by Medieval people.True, it's not quite as ridiculous if the eyes weren't gouged out, but I still think that the blind trait should be excluded here if this event isn't supposed to be blatantly supernatural.
