No I am not talking about relasing a colonial nation and playing as it.
I am talking about playing as "COLONY", one that overlord develops your lands and you pay taxes in return.

Maybe I'm not understanding, but if you play without ironman you could just create a colonial nation, and then quit the game and start the save playing as the colonial nation instead, or tagswitch via console.

You need a DLC.

Yes, I know.

let me ask it again for you since you are right(I did it once and loved it but I also like playing at Iron man since sometimes I get oppurtunities to get achivements. Recently I managed to snatch venetian sea achivement while forming Italy as venice by chance):
Why I can't do it with Iron Man?

Did you mean "why can't I play as a colonial nation in ironman mode?" The answer is "bad game design." Create a suggestion thread.

ok I might be dumb but what's the difference here between "colonial nation" and "colony" ?
I’m not sure what you’re asking. At the game start, there are no colonial tags. They need to be formed by someone. The only way you can play as a colonial tag has already been explained in the thread and it sounds like it’s DLC locked. When you play as a colonial tag, you still have an overlord. It’s up to your overlord to develop your land and you pay them with tariffs. You need to declare independence if you want to break free.

In the context of the OP's question, a "colonial nation" is one of the dynamic tags created by an old-world nation acquiring land in America or Australia. By "Colony" the OP means a colonial nation that is not independant. Currently, playing a colonial nation is possible in ironman by colonising, letting the colonial nation form, then releasing it and choosing to play as it. But there's no (ironman-friendly) way of playing as a colonial nation that is still the colonial subject of its overlord.

The only way to play as a dependent colony is via going back to the menu, selecting the colony from your save file and play it. I don't think it is Ironman compatible. But it is interesting to play as a colony, develop your nation and break free like how Latin America and the US did.

it is the only moment that you switch to your subject nation and become indepentent for some reason... and its the safest subject type where you can declare your own wars and not get integrated by your overlord.
Yes paradox I want to be a vassal that will be annexed next 10 years but I am not fine with being a colony lol :D

I specificly mentioned I am not talking about playing as colonial nation. Being "colony" is a diplomatical state, its a subject type.
"Colonial nations" are by definiton of game are nations created by colonising colonial regions as someone who does not have capital at those regions.
"Colony" on the other hand is a subject type that pays traffirs and force limit to their overlord that has certain laws modifying them that can declare its own wars at new world and can't be annexed by subject interaction.
if you check my attachment it says "crown colony" not "crown colonial nation". In my post assuming people would not understand what I am talking about specificly said "not talking about playing as a colonial nation, I am talking about remaining as a colony THAT HAS A OVERLORD"
last time I checked I am pretty certain you can't have an "OVERLORD" as a nation that is independent. (I mean I literally did not edit my post and I am talking about having overlord at my post... you are literally reflecting your mistake on me at this point)

I disagree with these definitions. A colony is a province which is currently colonized and not a finished city. A colonial nation is the type of subject which you are talking about. Once they become independent, they cease to be a colonial nation and are a "former colonial nation" until they form a new tag. "Crown colony" is just a special type of a colonial nation. So what you want to do is play as a colonial nation which is currently not possible in achievement-enabled ironman unless you do things which are usually considered cheating.

But the game is not 100% consistent with its usage of the term "colony".

even if I used wrong term I obviously mentioned existence of a overlord, one that is above me. Even if there is a confusion because of inconsistencies (or if I did a mistake) there is still me describing me being not an independent nation at original post should be hinting toward it

As @AvengedK1ng already mentioned you could just change the start date to a date, when the particualar tag, you want to play, exists and start the game in ironmade mode. However these later start dates havent been supported for a long time, so exepct a little bit of weirdness. Just as example: Great Britain uses protestantism as religion and not anglicanims. But it definitely works, I did basically the same a few years back with Portugese_Brazil -> Brazil.

Except you are missing the part where I understand your definition and that I answered your question correctly.

If you want to play as a subject colonial nation with an overlord (the dynamic tags created as C##) then you need Conquest of Paradise. There is no other alternative. I've repeated this like thrice at this point. You are pretending like people are getting confused over what term you call those nations.

Playing as a released colonial nation is possible without DLC. You just need to swap to the tag using console or start screen once you give them independence.

Because Montenegro isn’t a fundamentally broken feature left by the wayside several patches back?

I'm still not sure Montenegro is real. I suspect it's a hallucination.
