Why I Bought the Galaxy Edition

So, I honestly don't think that the Galaxy edition is really worth the extra 30 (insert monetary unit here)* but I got it anyway. The reason is because I love and support Paradox. I remember what happened to all the other companies where I used to pre-order the games (they all got swallowed by EA... every single one of them) and I don't want to see that happen to Paradox. If my small amount of extra money can help prevent something like that, I will give it to them.

It's also why I have ordered those DLCs for Crusader Kings II that don't interest me anyway. It's because I have a company here that I am willing, even happy to give money too, because I get the feeling that they care about the people who play their games. Go onto the EA message boards, and you won't get any actual human response from anyone high up in the production chain. They have forum robots who simulate higher-ups, and they have hired flunkies who give you scripted responses to anything you say. It's obvious nobody is scripting the answers we get to questions from the Paradox devs.

Paradox, you are the ONLY company from which I am currently willing to preorder games so... keep it up. I need at least one company I can believe in.

Which would imply that preorderers are mecenes or sponsors... which seems a bit too much since they are only prebuyers. And not even the Kickstarter kind of "pre-".

I agree with basically everything that's been said by everyone on this topic, which is why I split the difference and went with the Nova. Between Stellaris, HOI IV, and the inevitably forthcoming DLC for both, PDS will no doubt have regular visitation rights to my wallet for years to come.

I want to buy the galaxy edition just to support my favourite game developers, but i dont really think the bonuses are worth my money.

Id buy it if it actually came with some nice bonuses, but a a signed desktop wallpaper? (hows that even a thing?) and a digital book? No, sorry its just not something i personally would give an extra 30€ for.

Im going to hold on for now with pre-ordering in hope that paradox will actually put some worthwile bonuses for the galaxy edition, if not ill just go with the nova edition.

Id also like to add that I would buy the galaxy edition in a heartbeat if it was a physical collectors edition with some goodies like a poster or a mouse pad, or maybe a medal like in Hoi2 anthology, or even just a really cool box!

Nova fitted me most. But I also have to admit that I usually do not preorder/buy day 1 any more with the only exception: Paradox games.

So keep up the good work. You are the only company out there that earned my trust (That was burned to ground by Total War franchise, X Rebirth and many others )

So I'm really divided between Nova and Galaxy.
I want the soundtrack, so standard is out. I don't much care for forum icons and/or avatars(except for Blorg, obviously, but that's with the base preorder so it doesn't count). The signed wallpaper seems a bit silly, and the digital collector's book is meh...but I was going to get the eBook novel anyway, and that's likely going to be ~10€ on its own so...it's basically just the other 10 in difference. I guess I could value that as goodwill...

Oh, **** it. I'm going for Galaxy. You'd better celebrate release with a EU4 DLC sale though, Paradox.

I've never pre-ordered a game before but I'm planning to buy the Nova edition this evening after work. I've been a close follower of Stellaris since the first dev diary and livestream and can see the evident passion and effort that's gone into developing it. I've always dreamt of a 4x space game like Stellaris but never thought I'd actually see one get released. I have no hesitation in giving over my hard earned money for a game, which I'm sure I'll get a lot of enjoyment out of (most likely for years to come).

I do understand that reasoning. I like PDX as a company, too. Really bummed there is no Stellaris demo, but what can you do. I'll get to play it in 24 days anyhow.

I, for one, cannot wait to crack open those books, whilst listening to the Stellaris soundtrack before the fire place, pipe in mouth, brandy in one hand, portrait of the blorg above the mantel with Stellaris playing in observe mode on a 70 inch tv as I chuckle and make posh noises.

And yet for the first time ever, I feel the need to pre-order, which I will do as soon as I get home.
