Hey everyone,
I am fairly new to the paradox forums. That said - I am really psyched for the coming year (Hearts of Iron 4, Cities: Skylines, and SteamOS) That said - I have a few questions / Suggestions for paradox staff about genres that I would like to see return.

It is obvious that paradox listens to us and We consistently throw money at them for their games / DLC / Expansions.
I personally would love to see the return of the Tactical shooter.

Games such as Ghost Recon, SWAT, Rainbow Six Gold are timeless gems in my opinion.
That said - Why hasn't Paradox made a Tactical Shooter yet?

People Still play Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six: Gold. Just look at the ARMA series if you need any reference about tactical shooters.

There is a market for this.

If this does become a thing that paradox makes please make mod tools as well.

Thank you for your time,

HeadClot

Because they'd rather make - for the most part - grand strategy video games.

Moreover, tactical shooters don't sell well. Most series (Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon et al.) have drastically lowered their respective learning curves to appeal to broader audiences. (i.e. Xbox/Playstation potatoes)

The short answer; There are markets for many types of games - few of which we're interested in, good at publishing, like to play ourselves or already appeal to our fans.

The Longer answer: Check this page out: https://www.paradoxplaza.com/publishing there you see a number of pillars that outline the type of games we do.

A tactical shooter doesn't necessarily align with these in a great way - especially when it comes to function over form (to compete with the games you mention you need to go pretty high end on the graphics), hardcore and challenging - the games you mention are hardcore in a sense - but not in the way we try to achieve it.

Furthermore those games either have a heavy story focus - or multiplayer focus - neither of which we're focusing on right now. Whenever we do a new game we'd like it to appeal to a big part of our existing fanbase - my gut tells me very few of the Grand strategy gamers play those games.

Finally - There is an indie game called Due Process that is exactly what you described but it's done in a low-fi way that would suit us. But they're doing it already :)

But please do check out Due Process - I'm looking forward to it :)

Hey shams -

Thanks for the heads up about due process and why Paradox is not making a tactical shooter. :)

That said - I guess I should give a plug for a lesser know game in the tactical shooter space - ADMIN EDIT: External link removed
They are going for the full on realism route and are using UE4 for their engine. That said - This is one of the folks from Red Storm Entertainment that is making ground branch. (Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, etc.)

As you can tell I am excited for any and all tactical shooters. :)

Once again thanks shams
