Hi,

I've been trying a new approach with playing the ERE, using vassal-kings. It works like a charm, and I just installed a claimant to the throne of Hungary.
The capital of Hungary is in Sinai (Egypt, yet Hungary is now drifting de jure to the empire. The kingdoms of Tauricia and Georgia are also drifting, and have been for a while.

Previously I had conquered Jerusalem, Syria and Mesopotamia (via Holy War and a few Country Claims) but none of them are drifting. They should all be completely controlled.
I notice that these kingdoms are de Jure to the Arabian and Persian Empires (which are non-existent) Is this the difference? Is there any other possibility?

Make sure no Holy Orders control a holding in any of the counties.

Yes, the non-existant empire prevent them from drifting. It's a change that Paradox introduced in 1.08 and I personally don't see the reason behind it. Bugged me for quite a while too.

Both Holy orders appear to be landless. I have removed the Assasins, and everything appears to belong down to the proper De Jure lieges down to the Barony level.
I can see the last Duchies of both Mesopotamia and Jerusalem drift back from Egypt and Persia, so I assume they'll start drifting towards me afterwards.
Syria appears static. The last bit of the Kingdom that I grabbed was a single country, which is now the seat of the King. There is no drift indicated at all.

That's why it doesn't drift. A king holds the title. Duchies drift as they're supposed to do, but only if the king level title for the De Jure area doesn't exist. If it does then you can just forget about the entire thing because it won't drift in that case. Wether or not the holder of the king title has any of the De Jure land itself doesn't seem to matter either. I assume this is a bug as I sincerely doubt this was intentional.

Independent Kingdoms used to drift out of Empires that had never been created, so they made sure that no longer happened. I suspect that had side-effects, so now they won't drift out even if they should drift into another Empire. Had the same thing happen to me. Posted in the Bug section, all I got as an answer was "Reported"

This is annoying. It makes a Byzantine or Roman Empire game rather more challenging, as a significant portion of your land will never drift to De Jure. The result is that you'll have to worry a lot more about revolts for independence.
