Why don't the people who bought CK2 already get some reward or refund?

We bought the game and supported it, and now new players get it free. Great way to say thanks to your old customers.

This same argument can be made for "why do people who bought the game a full price not get a refund for the difference when it goes on sale?". It's not how businesses work is the short and simple answer.

We know some customers may feel this is unfair but if you think about it, it's really not a strange decision. Doing this allows us to grow our customer base by getting players that would otherwise not have bought the game into the ecosystem and realize what they've missed for all these years. We want as many as possible to enjoy our games and sometimes we will do radical things with older games. This is the first full game we're giving away for free and I have no idea if we will do it for anything else in the future, but it's possible.

That’s all fine and well however Paradox should have some sort of loyalty system in place, the idea was floated a while back but not sure if anything came of it.

Oh we haven't forgotten about the loyalty program . It's still in the works and we will have one sooner or later. It has taken a long time (I remember it was discussed when I started 4 years ago ) because we want to make sure we actually make a good one!
