We are on CK2 version 2.5.2 and the A.I. throws their entire army into a battle with no commanders.

And this isn't just me, every stream I've watched has the same problem.

Why is this so hard to fix? Can't you just add code to continually check if the "main" army has commanders assigned to all flanks? I swear this issue infuriates me because it does not seem that hard to fix and ruins the challenge/immersion. I mean, even if you just have the A.I. add commanders at random would be better than this.

If it 'continually' checks every army has commanders... our games will crawl.

That said, the main or only army does tend to not have commanders too often, probably because its not bothering to allocate at some key decision point. It would be helpful if somebody did note the main situations when the AI has had a brain fade (as in easier to get the devs to tweak something)

I think the key decision points for assigning commanders should be:
  1. On raising an army
  2. On merging or splitting armies
  3. On commander death
