Why wasn't it made to where minor states can win.

By the end of the game, in 1820, as Baden, I had only conquered a fourth of Austria/Bavaria, I had conquered Wurrtemburg and the HRE, as well as Kassel and Nassau.

And then the game ends and theres nothing I can do.

The real question is why the game didn't start in 1800. Many of Napoleon's most famous campaigns (particularly in Italy) take place BEFORE the game period even begins. It even starts after he declared himself emperor (although only by a month).

Directorate DLC! Only $20!

Just a jest, but that is what I expect. Isn't MOTE one of the Steam-based games like CK2 and EU4? If so, we should expect a bunch of DLC to expand the time period and (I hope!) map.

Might only appear if you're a winning power, then.
Nope, I was running a handsoff game as Morocco and got the option to continue when it got to 1820.

There is a "Just one more year!" button in my game. It lets you play for another year. You just keep pressing it until you get tired.

Hell, you win the game outright via dominance and still keep playing past 1820. I got to 1827 one time before I realized that army sizes and national ideas were getting out of control.

you can do something against...

1st: go into your \March of the Eagles\common dirctory
2nd: open the file "defines.lua" with notepad++ or wordpad (create a backup of the file is a good idea, if you want to play online)
3rd: search for the entry:
YEARS_OF_NATIONALISM = 50,
START_DATE = "1805.1.1.7",
END_DATE = "1820.1.1",
4th: change the entry END_DATE= "1820.1.1", to a year you like, example: END_DATE= "1840.1.1",
5th: save the file and you are done, no annoying popups after the 1.1.1820.

That would've been cool, mustering your armies as Britain or France and readying for the conflict; taking over countries as satellites (or annex, if you prefer) to gather more money. That would've been sweet.

Why mod the game? Seriously, you can just keep playing without fiddling with your checksum.
Sure its possible without modding, but its very annoying if you get asked every damn 1st january of each year after 1820 if you really want to play one more year...
Why not simply asking one time after 1820 if you want to play on or not? In my opinion, a very bad "design" decision and I hate bad design decisions.

It wasn't a bad design, it's the fact that if they left it open ended, people would start saying it was broken past 1820. The games is designed and balanced for the years it was meant to play, and the pop up is a reminder that you are playing outside the games time frame.

Anyway, as a player it is bugging me, if it pop ups every 1st january...
... I know that I play outside the games time frame after ONE pop up and with pressing the "one more year" button I understand and agree to play on even if the game is not designed and balanced for it, no need to remind me every damn game year.
It´s bugging me and bugging a player is bad design.

Balance reasons. The developers felt 1805 would give the most fun setup.
