Putting the particulars of the UNE namelist, I do wish we still had the ability to interact with the design of the civilian ships, and it might actually be an interesting space to play around with - maybe your science ship has a better lab that makes it better at detecting anomalies, but increases the survey speed, or vice versa. The colony ship could have some specializations to carry additional colonists or give you a building or a free district or something.

But I'm getting off topic. I do agree that namelists shouldn't alter the checksum, it's honestly rather annoying. As someone with a lot of mods and a lot of custom nations, having to go back through and reset all of my custom nations to their modded name lists after having played a MP game with friends who don't have that particular mod, it's just a bit annoying.

Its not the politics that bother me, it's the immersion. Yorktown is remembered much less fondly on this side of the pond, why would the UN pointlessly agitate America by honoring it? Same with Normandy, Bellau Wood, etc. It's unrealistic. The organization (ostensibly) fosters unity between nations in spite of their bloody history, they shouldn't be recalling its glories.
The Yorktown may be named for this : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Yorktown_(CV-10)

Or the decisive victory won by the Continental Army of what went on to become the US.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say most Germans are fine that they lost Normandy and (probably also) Belleau Woods. Perhaps consider also that the UN wouldn't be promoting these as glories of nation vs. nation, but perhaps ideology against ideology. In each of the cases of the battles, isn't it a (more) democratic people against a (more) authoritarian one? And the UN's set does include being a "beacon of liberty", and the flavor text for them points out this cherishing of individual freedoms.

Remember the Normandy might be named for the region, not the battle.

On a different note, I would *love* to have namelists not change checksum, but I suspect the reason they do is because they're part of species/empire generation, and interfering with this as a whole could be part of ways to alter the gameplay of a given species/empire.
It has been brought up before as a suggestion, but renewing the suggestion once they're not elbow deep in bug fixes may be worthwhile, as then they may have time to consider it even if it ends up not being implemented immediately.

Namelists changing the checksum is ridiculous. If namelists change the checksum, then why don't flag and emblem mods for instance change it? Those break multiplayer pretty heftily if you don't have the flag and emblem mods someone else has.
