Why do you prever Europa Universalis 4 over Crusader Kings 2?

Hello together,
first of all:
This is not an EU4 vs CK2 Thread.
I played hundreds of hours EU4 in my Life
and used to enjoy it very much.
But 2 weeks ago i started CK2.
Im having much more fun then in EU4.
Now im not sure wether it is because im some kind of bored from EU4 after playing it that much, or CK2 simply beeing the better game (for me).

Im very curious about your opinion!
@the people here who also have experience in CK2:
What exactly makes you prefer EU4 over CK2?

Because I've played a ridiculous amount of hours of ck2 and several overhauls mods on it. Eu4 is currently fresh and still hard enough that I can actually fail. Mostly to the bloody ottomans.

Also performance. I can finish a game of eu4. Think I've only finished 2 games of ck2 and both of those were chores.

The hardest part about getting into CKII for me is that so much of it seems like it's based on waiting on RNG: waiting on claim RNG, waiting on plot RNG, waiting on deaths, marriages, and children RNG... maybe I'm just playing it wrong, but it feels a lot more like CKII your options depend on how the game feels on gifting or cursing you while EU4 feels like you have much more control on what happens.

I don't think it's a case of one versus the other as both appeal to different sides of me, one side likes to paint the world my colour, the other likes to murder my wife.

Nope in a ck2 thread I lamented that as European nation I spent most of my time waiting for threat to decay and clicking on random buttons that I am never quite sure of what they do

I don’t. EUIV is an amazing game, but CKII’s focus on character is more immersive and I’m a roleplayer at heart.

I haven't played enough CK2. I've watched how to play videos, I've played a bit. I marry myself and my heir to people with good stats. I fabricate on neighbors, get frustrated that I can raise levies until after I DoW and so frequently my enemy manages to kill one of my levies before I can combine them. Need to work on that, but I haven't because I just find it annoying.

Most of the time I don't really know what I'm supposed to be doing. Maybe starting as an OPM in Ireland is not actually a good way to play, or maybe I'm trying to play it too much like EU4. Maybe it would be better to pick a midsized realm and just manage it internally for a bit.

I love both. I think EU4 is more polished, which is to be expected sine it's two years newer.

It seems to me unfortunate Hearts of Iron 4 did not receive the same focus as these two games. I played HoI4 for the first time in months, it remains full of exploits.

I prefer the time period mostly. Total war Empire is my most played TW title (despite being one of the worst titles in the series) for this same reason.

I feel like the pacing is quite a bit better too. CK feels like a ton of staff happens in the space of a few weeks, every couple years. My whole campaign can end in less than 10 RT seconds as well . I've literally had it happen more than once. My leaders are too emotionally fragile to survive their sons long it seems, I feel the pain

Both are great fwiw. I own both and play both quite often. I need to get better at CK2

CK2 is an absolute clusterf*ck to anyone new, so I'd say it's why EU4 is a bit easier to get into, but only just. EU was the first PDX game I played, and after 2000 hours I'm still nowhere near bored. I jump on CK2 from time to time and feel much more immersed, but due to my lack of understanding of all the game mechanics, I sometimes find it much more difficult than EU4- hence I'd rather spend my time doing well on EU4.

I have 1600 hours in CK II and 600 in EU IV so maybe that's part of it... burnout and all. EU IV just feels cleaner to me though and sometimes I just want to run a country without every asshole and their 3rd cousin trying to take it over from within every year. EU IV also has lovely graphics, wonderful localization for cultural titles and has incorporated a lot of things I like about CK II such as government tiers, character traits, factions, etc. I love CK II dearly but I started to migrate to EU IV a little bit before Horse Lords came out and now EU IV and Stellaris are all I really play though I do occasionally drop into CK II or Vicky II.

I just can't play CK2 for specific reason. One time i started as count and after 100 years i become King of France. German Emperor declare war on me i occupied every single province in Germany, but in truce i couldn't get even single province, for me it's ridiculous. I uninstalled CK2 and never come back.

1. CBs are extremely limiting
2. Your carefully built game can be destroyed by seven daughters in a row
3. Game lags after two centuries
4. Stupid Gavelkind issues
5. Ridiculous defensive coalitions
6. Overpowered Secret religions
7. Rapid Christianization of North Africa

EU4 - Cons:
1. Not enough incest.

Clearly, I prefer CK2.

The early days of CK2 were also quite horrible

Wars are more engaging in EU4, simply put.

I've yet to experience anything like late game very hard mode wars in non blobby campaigns playing CK2, unlike EU4. That's not to say I don't enjoy CK2, but not for the same reasons. CK2 is far more character driven, but is a worse war game.
