Why do you have to go The LONG way/a-historical Way to reach the West coast of Us

Why do you have to go through South America or through Alaska and Canada to reach the United State Sea Coast, When for at least 50 years Hawaii was the main stopping point of Fuel or otherwise to reach the Orient and both Midway and Hawaii were Stategically important in keeping out of the hands of the Japanese... In order to keep them from striking the West Coast... indeed more strategically important than the Aleutians or say the non-alligned Gallapogos Islands.
So why in Game can you not reach the American West coast from Midway or Hawaii? As it is now, they're not actually really important to the player if they're playing Japan... other than Cutting the American's off from being able to field a navy further East.

You need boats with better range, I know it seems cheesy, but even a few level 3 subs do the trick.

You don't. I have the Kongo based in Hawaii and sailing to say hi to the folks in California. And this is with the basic ships Japan starts with. No research or new ships built.

Just had this issue a couple of hours ago.. took my old Carriers and Subs from the fleet and boom, there's the range

Usually just splitting off you destroyers will do the trick. Japan's starting light cruisers, battleships, and carriers have enough range.

The Battleship IIs and Carrier IIs have the range, but not any other ship of the starting navy I've ever seen. Done it several times, even in MP while USA was not looking, and it is do-able.

I think the in-game range is 4k km so not even Destroyers 3 with range upgrades would make it, though I've noticed the destroyers get a slight bump in range when paired with the fleet, I assume some sort of average. The rest of the fleet's range suffers for it though.
