I had to quit this run because a mod sort of broke on me :)

But usually its when something blobs too much and I want a fresh start. In this game HRE had Norway, the midlands of England and part of southern France as France was in meltdown so I guess another 50 years and I would of restarted anyway, they were off after Finland next.

Mostly, it's just because I get bored. I don't play games on a massive empire building scale. Instead, I just play as a small duchy or kingdom, and I don't set out to conquer the world. I guess that would be considered boring to others, but that's just my play style.

Also, it's when the map gets too goofy. I was really excited with a playthrough where I started in 1337 as Moldau, and I, from the other side of the map, watched Edward III win the most epic triumph over France, with that lovely English red coloring the map from the British Isles down to the Mediterranean. Then, Edward died and all hell broke loose. England and France completely fell apart, a dramatic reversal caused various Muslims to conquer all of Castile, and the Holy Roman Empire was replaced by a mega-Bohemia.

E) One of the AI Empires(usually HRE, Egypt, or BYZ. Sometimes all three!) conquer much of the territory I was planning on taking. Now all that land is under the control of a doomstack infested nation that can squash me like a bug if I declare war.(Also, it's only 1170  )

E) I do not quit. I'm still on my first game, which I started not long after Crusader Kings 2 were first released. I have continued with the same game through all the patches and always play with the latest patch and all DLC's. I play as the King of Denmark and the year is now 1269. I take my time. There are 224 hours logged on Steam which will mean about one real time hour per game year.
