People...quit?

I dunno about anyone else, but I always play games through to the end -- there's nothing more fantastic, from a story arc perspective, than a backwater count rising to become lord of four kingdoms, only for his idiot descendant to piss it all away, relegating the family to obscurity once more.

E) Three comets sighted in the same year...

Woops, wrong PI game. :p

But in all seriousness, I quit a CKII game whenever I lose interest, which is typically when I'm running out of real challenges. That, however, is easily prevented by stopping myself from using non-stop gamey tactics and refusing to reload.

The great thing about CK2 is that there's always a real challenge -- if you find yourself getting too comfortable, just stop micromanaging and let yourself relax your guard a bit, and there's surely some new threat on the horizon.

...Usually, that threat is the Mongols. KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

YOu guys should stop using "I got too powerful" as a reason for quitting. Being powerful doesn't last forever, and it's fun when a "boring" game suddenly turns vicious in your face when you get a total turd on the throne, and your sons get assasinated :D

Losing all your king titles, and then regaining them, is FUN!

Oh and stop cheating, it ruins all the challenge :p

E) I've done what I've set out to do, but the next logical objective just seems too tedious (Taking half of Khazan as Georgia and fighting off the Golden Horde, it seemed logical to crown myself Queen of Rus next, as the Eastern Roman Empire still held Armenia, I was friends with the Empress, and I'd inherted significant duchies in Rus but... There were just too many counties left to take to form Rus, and it didn't seem like there would be a challenge in doing that anyway)

F) My ruler lives too long, my heir has made disasterously foolish decisions (and/or bad luck) regarding their children, and I don't have any suitable replacements (Such as only having daughters, none of whom were married matrilinearly)

G) My child dies before I can hand out a duchy to them, and I tire of dealing with the penalties of exceeding my demesne limits (It's never a concious decision or anything, but I tend to only hand out duchies to close family members, or favored cousins. I guess nobody else at court ends up sticking out, and I just really dislike handing out important positions to random shmucks for no good reason.)

I quit games because new patches come out, or I get new ideas.

I quit sessions because something rage inducing happens and I decide to deal with it later.

Last quit when my heirs grandson married one of his first cousins and she popped out a boy who happened to be an imbecile. Didn't realize it until said grandson became heir. Got sick of waiting years and years for the execution plot to come to fruition and wasting all my money on assassins. After the 5th assassin failed with a 56% kill chance I decided to give up. Plus my window didn't look as dark as I thought it should.

Only game I quit (out of two, considering I just got the game 3 weeks ago, both in Ireland) was when I figured I was screwed. Made Ireland from Dublin, but it wasn't a unified Ireland--Scotland, which was highly unified and had I think high CA, took Connacht very early when he got himself excommunicated, then Breifne, then claimed Kildare, then usurped the Duchy of Meath, then kicked my ass to take Dublin. I was able to win it back by striking when they were on the Crusades and dealing with a pagan Moray (and using mercenaries), but I quit when it was clear my game was just about done. This came about right after Scotland had joined the Duke of Ulster in his plot to lower crown authority, and once my levies were utterly ruined and I was back at autonomous vassals, he formally declared war to take back Meath (with no truce--maybe there's no truce if you join a war but aren't the primary parties to the war?).

I gave up at that point (in the 1180's)--I would be king of Ireland of 4 counties in the south, a vassal Duke of Ulster that would probably just as soon go independent or pick a stupid fight with someone and lose, and with me in no position to resist the inevitable Scottish pressed claim on any of my other counties that would lead to probably losing Leinster, rinse, repeat...

It gets bloody tedious. That's why I quit and every time I think of starting a new game I remember how bloody tedious it is and I still go ahead and start a new game. Before you know it, it's 5 a.m.

Being a power and land hungry personality I can't stop from expanding rapidly in every game I play. So, naturally I stop when I've painted the map enough, when the internal issues become so strong that they limit the expansion to the last 15-20 years of ruler's life (when all the remaining vassals are content). Then it's a start all over again. Can't play without expanding much, roleplaying a non-ambitious ruler isn't for me. To add some variety I tend to play weird culture/religion combinations or just heretics.
