Because the game is so simple. Simple in the way that there isn't a ton of things to keep track of if you don't want to. The UI is easy. The management of a nation is easy. There's no need for a thousand complicated things like in HoI3, and if not in the mood for complicating stuff this really fits the bill. I can play in a very relaxed manner, focus on the epicness of my wars, on keeping illoyal people in administrative offices (or in prison), withough having to worry about too much.

I can focus at a few things and do them well, instead of having to focus on a million.

The civil wars and other domestic issues adds an awesome flavour to it all since I'm not entirely in control though. I can try to steer the nation towards the best results of what options I'm given, but I'm never fully in control.

It's like Crusader King's except there's not some bizarre glitch that renders combat meaningless.

---edit---

Okay, so I had some general that ended up being disloyal because his mother wanted him on the throne. I think I made him a general shortly before that because he had a high martial stat/made him a general anyway because high martial stat.

He had some public office, though, and his charisma and finesse sucked. And coupling that with the loyalty, I tried to replace him. This sets off a civil war.

So basically I'm dealing with that, barbarians, and... Epirus is fighting the Achean league and blockading some of my resources in the process, one of my generals becomes totally awesome, and I try to fulfill various missions and personal ambitions.

Meanwhile, I got an event about a dog humping some priest's leg and setting off an empire-wide orgy.

This game is awesome.
