I have 3 slots used and I always need a 4th for my indebted to the merchants.
Well, you should choose privileges which you consider the most advantageous in your situation. If you know which 4 give you the most benefit, it's great and you don't need anyone's advice.

EU just gives you tools, it doesn't mean that all of them are equally useful or work for every player and every country.

In the Early game, Prestige is harder to come by and Patronage of the Arts can be a life-saver. As many have mentioned, you need prestige if you have a trash, scripted heir or you need to introduce an Heir (Castile and England, respectively).

It's certainly one of the ones I ditch first as Prestige gets easier to come by with ideas and age mechanics.

In the early game for PU.
There really aren't that many out there anymore. Bohemia used to be the go-to PU snipe, but that's a good bit harder to pull off now. Many of the other "big" ones are scripted.

Burgundy, Bohemia, Aragon, Hungary, Milan, Lithuania/Poland, England/France, Provence --> all have events or missions

Formed Mali Empire in two separate games, both on Ironman and disinherited my heir both times on day 1. The -50 prestige wasn't that awful for all that long. I'm not saying it didn't make things harder, I'm just saying that the game wasn't unplayable on day 2 because of -50 prestige.

The difference between -50 prestige and +50 prestige is like 50% improved relations and 10% aggressive expansion modifier, not counting stuff like better morale, global trade power, or estate loyalty equilibrium.

No, the game isn't unplayable with -50 prestige, but I'd rather take the 5% tax penalty and upset burgers to have more prestige instead of less prestige. Prestige is one of the most underrated modifiers in the game.

Yes most of them is scripted, but extra prestige is always good. You dont know when you need it. If there is chance I attack Bohemia very early.

Having 100 prestige vs 0 is like having the game's best idea group. Yearly prestige generation is extremely good before you get to the point that you're permanently capped.

It's great as others have said for getting out of a prestige hole, and really satisfying (as the return seems to scale throughout the game to a degree) for those moments where the RNG Gods give you 'Choose between losing some prestigae, or take a stab hit and loose your heir' or whatever daft event it is. being able to instantly put the prestigate back in the green & reap the rewards is great.

Depending where you are, you can accrue a lot of prestige fast using separate peace deals for things like end rivalry/annul treaties/war reparations and similar. This is a major factor in AE management, and also gives a nice set of other buffs.

Perma-capping is difficult until you get going with mass expansion, but > 50 or even 80 constantly isn't THAT hard to manage. Still, this estate privilege has its place in early game. Building up from -20 or so is nicer than building up from -50.
