Why do mods on this forum tolerate racism and deragotry slang?

I constantly see people on these forums referring to Turks and various Eastern European Muslims as "kebab." There are plenty of jokes about "remove kebab" on these forums, ie, obvious references to ethnic cleansing and genocide: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/serbia-strong-remove-kebab

Yet you know what? These posts are rarely dealt with. There are almost never warnings posted by mods nor any instructions that this kind of language is inappropriate. Plenty of other language can and does trigger mods' attention, but not "kebab."

I'm having a hard time finding a single instance where a mod stepped in to stop people making jokes about genocide and the derogatory term "kebab."

Is "kebab" the exception to the forum rules? Can I apply to have some more nationalities/groups added to the exception list so I can make fun of them, too?

kebab is not allowed or acceptable on this forum. If you see a post with it in it, please PM a moderator for the forum you are viewing, or any moderator and we will take it from there.

There's also the option to put someone in your "Ignore" list.

I never wanted to do that myself until, recently, I finally had to capitulate with a user who's clearly a religious fanatic (both by his signature and per his own admission) and who more often than not attacks "kebabs" and Arab people in general (probably thinking they are the same thing, btw, which doesn't surprise me as the guy has definitely some problems with the way he sees the world).

So, instead of having his posts getting on my nerves every time I saw them (or losing time to report them), I just quashed him altogether from my view. I reckon it works.

Sometimes I do, but sometimes it's just a matter of someone who's otherwise reasonable and has useful things to say, but doesn't understand that things are not appropriate in certain contexts.

And you still end up seeing their posts in replies, so it's not exactly foolproof.

Yes, I agree.

This is why, as I wrote at the beginning, I'm also not very fond of this system - although it's also true that one can spend only so much time on reporting bad behaviours/foul languages. It's mostly a matter of priorities, I guess.

Alright then, to be more explicit - it's a very derogatory term almost exclusively used for racist reasons, equivalent to ... well, I'll leave it to your imagination.

And this is true of ANY bad behaviour ANYONE sees here on the forums. Do not respond to such posts, nor start new threads on them, but PM any relevant Mod only.

No such significant changes are likely to be made to the forum software as is, but I'd assume when the software is updated such things will be implemented.

The wiki is of course nothing to do with Paradox or these forums. But I don't see the word there, I guess it's been edited out now.

I think the real reason why no one is sanctioned for using that word is because people here don't really promote hatred or anything when using it, it's only used as a joke.Didn't knew it is that offensive though, I thought it is comparable to calling English the nation of shopkeepers.

Frankly, I thought the meme was started by an achievement in EU II or EU III. I had no idea it was not until I googled it after finding this thread. I didn't even know it was originally meant to be offensive.

How do you know no-one is sanctioned for it? I've issued one such myself.
