"Chirper" aka "The annoying Bird" was a big flop after the release of the awesome Cities Skylines.

- Majority of people turn the notifications OFF in options
- Majority of people was annoyed by SOUNDS it makes
- Majority of people just used a mod to kill it

Why CO is still supporting a flop entity

by SUPPORTING i mean the following
- Its in advertisements
- Its the top steam LEV5 badge (that's why i planning to stay at LEV4)
- They call us Chirpies

(Not asking to remove it)

Discuss!

I have no opinion on the bird. It need a bit more variety in the "chirps", and maybe they should include an option to switch it off for players who don't like it. Other that that i'm ok with it.

So you got any source for your statistical significant survey of Skyline players?
Well the mod to switch it off is quite popular :D

I don't understand why this is even a discussion if you don't like it turn it off, it is as simple as that. I don't understand why they have to remove it when you can just turn it off using mods if it bothers you that much, In the end it's quite a simple fix for you.

I have to say that I like Chirpy. Although I muted the bird and I prevented it from opening when it has new massages I do read most of them when I take a break from building. I often take my time to watch the city, look at the vitals, statistics, inspect the roads to make sure all cars are getting where they need to go and to make sure there are no traffic jams or long waiting lines at traffic lights and at that time I take my time reading the Chirpy massages and also just pan around the city making pictures looking at my Cims.

I wouldn't want Chirpy to go and the options in game to mute him and to prevent it popping up every time it has new massages are enough for me, so I don''t even need mods for this. What I would like is to get a larger variety of massages. At this moment Chirpy makes me feel like I have real citizens that care about garbage, smelling apartments of their neighbours, schools, green energy and so on. But its to much of the same, its like having just 20 citizens that have no creativity, so they always say thing the same way. I would love to have the Chirpy feeling of having real Cims in my city, but with enough variety to be interested to see what they write even after 200 hours of playing. Maybe a mod should be made for this and that would make Chirpy more valuable to me then he already is.

The variety should be in both number of topics and ways to formulate a massage.
Topics: I want to see posts about traffic problems (or lack of it), about nature, about one of the stores downtown that has a sale, about a company going bankrupt, about a building burning down, about long waiting times for the bus or about the short journey to work, about a nice new park, about a new sportsteam, a national championship or other things that might not all give relevant info to building your city, but that do give a feel of actual people living in your city.
Formulating massages: When I build a new windmill I don't want to see the same massage every time, I want different massages like "Great to see the city moving to renewable energy.", "Love the directing this mayor is taking power supply.", "Windmills is the way to go.", etc.

Err...no it doesn't. That list shows that even the most popular mod that changes the chirper has less than 20% of the popularity of the most popular mod outright, and even than has only been subscribed to by a clear minority of the people who play the game

The 15th, 51st, 56th, 121st, 130th, 146th, 167th and 171st most popular mods (out of 223) to be precise. That wasn't a list of the top mods.

Your point was that it was a flop and that this was a majority opinion. 56,041 out of 500,000+ have removed, moved or muted Chirper, of which 41, 241 have removed him completely (assuming no-one has downloaded more than one of these mods). That's around 8%. 92% of people have kept Chirper in some form.

Some people don't like the feature, as was debated at length, and CO have reacted and provided support for that choice. You have every right to discuss whatever you want, but you haven't provided any kind of new argument - just 'majority' and 'flop' statements which are provably wrong. If you want to fuel discussion then you need to come up with something new, otherwise the whole discussion is dead. Personally I have no problem with Chirper, but if someone suggests a genuine improvement then I'm all for it.

I believe Chirpy is a good feature for 2 reasons:
1. It does provide valuable feedback when a building was overlooked by services - which has happened a few times.
2. It does provide feedback regarding general population happiness - even if you have the layout views for that.

I know, you can use layouts for both of these, but say you are rezoning a huge area, while not in pause mode (as I do enjoy seeing houses being built) and you've missed a water pipe. Or even hearse access to some areas. At the same time, it would be nice to see Chirpy's messages a tad bit changed, and add things about not enough buses/metro lines to work/industrial zones or not enough services for different areas/cims.

Other than that, I like the blue lil' birdy.
