(...) That said, I do run an absolute monarchy toward the 1300s and above. I am always trying to get the highest authority possible and I do like to have some archbishops/ doges here an their.

May I ask why? I never saw the point in going higher than medium. The only thing the higher levels seem to do is make the vassals more unhappy. And that means they're more likely to plot and join factions and also, more importantly, lower relations actually mean less levies. Also, if you're running an elective monarchy, it means they're less likely to vote for your chosen successor.

Not really. Archbishops and Doges aren't bothered by crown authority. They're perfectly happy under Absolute Crown Authority. Only feudal vassals care about crown authority.

I do it for a few reasons. I try to get high so I can have primogeniture succession. I get to absolute mainly for flavor reasons though. I like to think that by the time I get to absolute I am kind of like Louis XIV of France or something.

Another thing is that I tend to have quite a few Archbishops and Doges. At one point in my first Ireland game I had all of the Irish Duchies be a Republic. I was King in England by then though.
