I don't know if there isn't already a thread about this, but seriously, WHY can't we fight reconquest wars for our vassals/junior PU? Back in Crusader Kings 2 things seemed to work much better. If I'm King of England and Scotland I can always demand the de jure borders of both my Kingdoms. Cores are similar, but I find it odd that we can't use whichever CBs our vassals have/would have. I know I can DOW for whatever reason and then demand "Return Cores", but I still think that after Dipplo-vassalazing Norway I should have a reconquest CB against Sweden. A PU between England and France after a victorious HYW campaign should allow the King of England to demand all French cores from Burgundy/Provence/Whoever else stole them.

You can still return cores to your vassals and PUs for no AE...you don't get a CB for that, but CBs are really easy to get...just fabricate a claim.

I do think this should be its own CB - "Reconquest of Subject's lands". It seems fairly odd that you would need to fabricate or otherwise acquire a CB for something you won't even really be doing (like conquering whatever adjacent province they happen to have, particularly if its that vassal's core that you are going to return and lose claim on anyway)

With some conditions:

1. Your vassal / lesser partner must have a core owned by another nation (obviously)
2. You cannot own any province in which that vassal / lesser has a core (So no beating France into a pulp, releasing and cancelling vassals, annexing a few provinces, then force-vassalizing them, followed by the conquest of everything else)
Optional 3a. Just like coalition locks you out of all but claimed provinces, using this should prevent YOU from annexing anything - only Return Core option should be available, plus the usual monetary / cancel treaty / transfer power
Optional 3b. Allow normal war, but give 125% AE value for your personal annexations
Optional 3c. Make this the *only* CB in which you can return core to a subject nation

Not possible if you do not share a land border.

It's not that long a post, you could read it first :(
- I know I can DOW for whatever reason and then demand "Return Cores" -

Anyway, I agree this would be nice. There are workarounds yes, which is great! Because that means a seperate CB wouldn't be overpowered, it would mainly just feel better.

While it is not that much of a problem, i think the OP has a valid point. One should be able to somehow push our subjects claims.

Maybe directly like in ck2 or indirectly by asking our subject to declare war where they can then decide if they want to do that or if they don't want to do that.

I like the idea, but I want to make a little different suggestion... enabling vassals to declare war independently using the Reconquest CB, which automatically draws in the overlord. The overlord may refuse to participate, which will end vassalage right there. This may not make a lot of historical sense, but it will make vassal feeding to require more planning: releasing Byzantium as an OPM as a preparation to gobble up Ottomans at leisure will not work, since you'll then have to consider risk losing that puppet. The overlord, in turn, could be given an option to warn the vassal, sending a signal that they may abandon them if they declare any war at an undesirable time, but doing so might make the vassal practically unannexable with a relationship malus "Our liege ignores our righful claims" -100. If the vassal declares war, the overlord will still be the war leader.

It defeats a lot of the purpose of having a vassal if they can break away just be declaring a war you don't want to get involved with.

Yeah, I thought about it too... warning that vassal could *probably* stop that vassal from declaring wars on its own, but just not 100%. Using the vassal puppeteering could use a bit more spice, and that was just the idea.

Or maybe something like this. The vassal could request aid from their liege in their Reconquest. Then you're given a CB against the target nation, with an expiry date of.. let's say, three years. Letting the CB expire could give a large negative opinion modifier to the vassal, punishing the player for making them unable to annex it for some time. This should probably also make the vassal not to make another request for a while.

I'm suggesting this because giving the vassal some initiative could not only make it require more planning as the overlord, but also to make playing as vassal more interesting. Some vassal nations do start with cores outside their territory, the first thing I can think of is Khmer, with its core in Stung Treng in Lan Xang. Or a Finland player could request aid of Sweden (if Sweden is independent) in reclaiming the rest of Finnish cores in Novgorod territory. Just some ideas.

really no point in making such cb because it then should make that reconquered lands should go to your vassal
and you can just do it simply by normal cb and taking those lands and selling for free to your vassal

Oh look, another why isn't EUIV CKII thread. Never seen that before. /s
Oh look, another poster who discards features that would make perfect sense on the grounds that they would make EU4 too similar to CK2. Never seen that before.

Personally I'd rather have a series of holistically functional games that overlapped slightly than a group of different games full of half-baked but unique features.
