Why can't my lithoid devourers sell food?

As devourers, my species produces mashed humano food from purging - there isn't even anything I can do about that. Now I'm sitting on a stash of food, but I have no way to get rid of it: the market doesn't let me sell it! What is the problem? I can sell minerals and alloys just fine, and rare resources too, at least the ones I discovered. But not food!?

Is this an oversight or a bug? What can I do to get rid of this food?

I though that in order to trade a resoruce you just needed to have some, but maybe you now need to be producing it instead. If that's true the solution would be to capture a planet with farming districts and keep one.

In the mean time the only thing you can do with your food is to reform your government and take Catalytic Processing as your 2nd/3rd civic. That requires Plantoids DLC though, so if you don't have it, well, tough luck.

Yes, if you don't have access to the galactic market you need to be producing a resource to sell it.
Purging does count as producing food though, so that should allow you to sell the resource.

Not relevant to this run specifically, but on the galactic market all basic resources are always unlocked, and when it comes to volatile motes etc., just one empire needs to be producing it, and then it is (permanently, I think?) available for everybody.

Yeah, you need to have at least one agricultural district or one hydroponic farm/bay. Found that out the hard way when I made an RS game with lithoids as my secondary species.

You need a food production from districts, so at least 1 agricultural district.
I suspected as much, but, if true, that would be incredibly silly.
take Catalytic Processing
That would be very inefficient as I would need to produce most of the food myself. It would be better, then, to just build one farm and sell that food rather than spending a valuable civic slot.

Well, I already am. Apparently producing food by purging is not enough :(

I don't remember an occurrence of being able to purchase something without actively producing that resource myself.

It just occurred to me that I could try build a Bio-Reactor. At least this wouldn't bind a pop, and I'd get a slightly better exchange rate than I would on the market.

I think the best solution would be to build one hydroponic bay, which would produce a bit food and you would be able to sell it
