This has probably been posted before, but theres just such massive amounts of information on the forums I can't seem to find an answer. Still new to the game (after a few years on HOI/HOI2), I've been in a few wars in a few different games.
The issue: In some instances, while at war, I'm unable to annex a country even after I own all the provinces. This happened when I was playing as England against the American colonists, and also playing as the Ottomons against 3 different countries. For example, I occupied both of Serbia's provinces, and all of Moldavia's, but was unable to annex. When I clicked offer peace, it didn't not give me the option to annex, only to damand territories in tribute (all but the capital).

Also, while I'm posting, is there a list of historical events somewhere? I never know when I should wait for an event to fire or just declare war when I want to take some territory.

If you're hoping to get provinces through events, don't. There are very few nations that are lucky enough to actually be granted provinces in events. Austria is the most prominent it annexes several neighbours through events.

You cannot annex a state unless it:

- has only 1 prov OR
- is pagan

Events can be found in \DB\events if that is what you're looking for.

So to completely annex I would have to get them down to one province in the first war, get a peace deal, and then DoW again later and take the last province?

I didn't mean get the provinces through the events, meant more along the lines of historical events that result in war. For instance, is there an event that starts the Napoleanic wars?

Get them down to one province and annex in following war for non-Pagans. Sounds right.

The other way would be to force them to become a vassal as part of the peace terms and diplomatically annex them between 10 and 30 years later, of course, assuming they are the same religion as you and you share a land border and you get your relations over +190. It's less painful to your reputation than directly force-annexing another country but takes a lot more time to complete. You have to keep them as vassals for ten years before you can even try with maximum chance of success at 30 years. Two or more wars would be more blunt but could be quicker.

The Ottomans can only vassal and annex sunni states so the multi-war option may be the only way if you fight to the west.

As for events, you mentioned colonials. I don't think you could get the United States back in an event, but it's been so long since I've played that scenario that I don't really remember. The force-vassal/diplo-annex tactic should happen soon enough for you to swallow the USA back before 1819. Religion shouldn't be an issue for the colonial conflict since they spun off from your colonies.

There are events for a few countries...

Yes, in the first war... or in the "first" three wars... :) depending on how much territory your unfortunate opponent may have. You may also try turbo-annexation to get more provinces during one war, which will probably be better explained by someone more experienced. Or just have a look in the FAQ.

The best way however is probably what Stolen Rutters says - diplo-annex (if can be done). I sometimes just lack patience...

Theres no event that directly starts any of the wars like the 30 years war etc so sadly they don't often occur. However the ai file used by the computer does change with periods so they get more aggressive in Napoleans time.

Blitzkreig... :) Wow, what we could do with Tanks and Mechanized Infantry against muskets and cannon.

DaVinci's "tank" drawing may have come out in this time period, but it looks a bit more like a spring driven armored cart. In any case, pressing a claim on another crown rarely was a quick affair.

Turbo-annex is where you take control of every province except one, then make your opponent have a revolt, this can be done by demanding a steep war settlement (which, if done correctly and your opponent refuses, will bring his stability one down every time you do so) thus lowering his stab. When the last province is in rebel hands, your enemys country will fall apart, every province you control will then be handed to you.
It takes a bit of practice to do, and it gives you a ton of BB, but it's also the fastest way to get big. This coupled with siege stealing is a sure way to get big quick (too quickly usually), and a sure way to get the axe in MP.
