HiveMinds should be allowed to do most of the "policy" options, it is VERY weird that they're not allowed to.

Mostly, currently, Hive Minds just lose a lot of features without getting any new ones.

And without reason either, there's absolutely no reason as to why HiveMinds shouldn't be allowed to purge or use Full Bombardment, there's even an argument for Armageddon bombardment.

The whole idea behind them is that the hivemind does whatever because there are no individuals, why would it even care.

Maybe its not so much that non militarists are unwilling to do to full bombardment as it is that they actually just lack the skill to do so? Either way id rather not have hiveminds be too good just for balance reasons.

It seems to be about balancing them out a bit.

Not that I care that much about full bombardment. It's not that useful. And since Hive Minds can go the Evolutionary Mastery route, there's no reason they can't throw an unending stream of Very Strong, Resilient Gene Warriors at every planet.

Agreed, GreatAlucard. I will tell you another setup, besides HiveMinds, that has a lot of options removed is a fanatical purifier. No diplomacy, AT ALL, not even with Curator, Trader, etc. simply blows arse.

I'd be willing to accept that argument for some of the other features Hiveminds lack access to, but let's be honest here, bombardment types are nearly cosmetic. It cuts down time a bit for the bombardment, but these are already short enough with any meaningful fleet that it doesn't really matter; A bit extra chance of destroying the pops, but these are low enough that if you can significantly purge the population of any non-just colonized planet through it, your war is lasting far too long. Destroying buildings and creating tile blockers? I guess it's a bit useful to debilitate an enemy if done at a planet you don't plan to conquer, but then again, that's a long war to go through.

All considered it's mostly about RP really.

I created a HiveMind civ/empire a few days ago and was in a war with a FE - trashed his fleet and then proceeded to start invading/landing troops on his planets. Dropped 12 Gene Warriors on one planet that had a 'host' of defenders.....result was I lost not the first batch of 12 Gene Warriors but a second set of 12 to boot. Man, not having Psi warrior/corps blows. But yeah...

If the damage isn't too fast and you control the orbital, you can always retreat once your troops are somewhat damaged, wait until they get back at full strength, and land them back to fight. Also, for a FE, 12 troops each time might be a bit too few, honestly. I'd go with twice that for each invasion fleet, so you have more bodies to soak damage and more damage to kill their troops.

Youre right, mostly I just think its good that there is differentiation between choices, the same arguments could be applied to most if not all of the other ethos benefits, after all why cant a hive mind be a spiritualist or a pacifist? Its good to have choosing hive minds be an interesting and different choice instead of just being a bland super ethos who can do anything.

Perhaps in the future, we drop all 24 Gene Warriors at the same time. Concentration of force is your friend.

(It also sounds like you blocked his nice armies on the ground. How unfortunate. I usually bag his nice troops in orbit as he tries to go off and invade some colony of mine.)

I think that all options or most options should be open to hiveminds, but then again why would you want to bomb your food another species into extinction etc
because you don't understand that it's hurting them. cuz the do not express the signs of damaged drones.
