I agree. I restarted 3 games right in the beginning because of this and had no idea what the problem was. I thought there must be some kind of bug.

Paradox manuals are practically worthless. They don't update them, or anything. Even tutorials are sometimes left broken on purpose as the series evolves. This is why these forums exist - so that people can drag others through learning the game because Paradox Interactive is too lazy to do it themselves.

Don't get me wrong, the game looks like a lot of fun, but the tutorials in the game read like a collection of tooltips all put in one spot, so that even after I had read them all (and I did), I was left clueless as to what to do after I started a game. I then ran across the excellent video tutorials by a fellow called TekkorGJC on YouTube, which went a LONG way in helping me feel like I could figure this game out, and then his talk-through play-by-play. He doesn't cover everything, but he makes sure you have enough to get out of first gear.

Even so, many things are clearly left to the user to search the internet for information. It is extremely unfortunate since this makes the learning curve more like a learning cliff. They absolutely needed to create videos to help users get past those first steps.

Well, this really just depends on your learning style, I think. Personally, I find videos an awful way to get information--they tend to actually show me very little, because I need to see/do stuff for myself, and be quite slow-paced. The tooltips worked out pretty well for me, as did reading the manual.

It's true Paradox doesn't usually update the tutorial or manual, but that'd be a lot of work...perhaps a prominent link to the CKIIWiki somewhere is a good idea?
