Why can I not create this species?

I just tried to create a fanatic xenophobe and materialistic species that is also decadent but the game tells me I can't choose decadent, unless I have an ethic that supports slavery aka xenophob (screenshots).

The also doesn't let me save the species with any other combination of ethics... It's really strange.

Why is that? Where did I make a mistake?

You need collectivist for Decadent - xenophobes cannot be innately decadent since there were no alien slaves on their planet.

Bonuses of collectivist+xenophobe outweigh bonuses of fanatic xenophobe. Sure, extra border range is nice, as is influence from rivalry, but collectivism gives a lot of ethic divergence techs, and faction suppression bonuses that'll help to deal with slave factions.

Plus robots if you're unlucky enough not to find alien slaves right away.

Thanks everyone for those suggestions. I'll definitely do that. Although I've got about 90 hours of playtime, I'd say that I'm still fairly inexperienced with the deeper mechanics.
