I'm playing France. Castile is a rival and an enemy. I have not given them military access yet I see their armies marching hither and thither through France where ever they please. How can this be? I thought entering enemy territory was akin to declaring war.

Perhaps I will look like an Idiot for asking the obvious but....Are you sure they are not exiled armies? They have a black square/flag.

If a war ends while you've still got troops on enemy territory, they become exiled. They can't engage in combat and can move through other nation's lands until they reach one of your or your vassals provinces.

Aha, they are exiles. How did they become exiles? What is their status?
They probably became exiled after ending a war in Morocco. Armies become exiled if they end up in a place where you don't have military access, such as in enemy territory when a war ends, or in a country after they cancel military access.

They ended a war outside friendly territory. That means they can walk around without permission but losing the ability of attacking/been attacked/siege and generally be completely useless till they return to their territory where they return to normal.
