Late game when I'm tired of dealing with 300k Ottoman stacks lumbering around Central Asia while I'm sieging down their capital, I'll just send 700 light ships to privateer in Constantinople. Not for my fiscal benefits mind you, but because the Ottomans will slowly bleed to death because the AI is too stupid to disband units that are too expensive, nor hunt pirates. Fun stuff. Are the Ottomans overpowered? No. Are they annoying as all fuck to fight? Yes.

View attachment 631451
(Oman into Third Way, another 250k Ottoman stack just walked through all my forts in the Zagros/Caucasus and stack wiped all of my carpet siege troops in Central Asia. I decided to carpet siege with 60k stacks after that)

This is actually an excellent strategy. I might try this next time.

They've not conquered that much land yet. It's still early in the game, but once they snowball this will be 3x larger and any coalition of me + whoever else won't match them.

Yes, the Ottomans are overpowered. Not in the way that they succeed 100% of the time, but that they are easily the country that most commonly beats their historical record.

And for some reason that's ok.

To showcase what I'm talking about, that's the scariest Ottoman's I've faced in 1.30 and arguably in the top 3 scariest I've ever seen:

eu4_245.png

That Crimea is an Ottoman vassal.

And yes, those Ottomans are somewhat on my for not killing them early, but in retort I would also like the point out that I still blocked their growth into Hungary and Poland. If I weren't there, most of eastern Europe would be green most likely.

If I were to make suggestions to change the Ottomans:

  1. Give them back their Anatolian cores
  2. Make Turkish an isolated culture, Korea style
  3. Nerf the Ottoman ideas. Less endless armies, more endless navies. Personally, I'd also shuffle the +5% discipline back a bit.
  4. Get rid of the Crimea event. It's literally the most OP non-random event there is.
  5. Buff the hell out of Russia and especially Persia. Both states won more wars against the Ottomans than they lost, whereas ingame they are little more than snacks for the Turkish juggernaut.
  6. In general take measures to redirect the expansion path of Ottomans away from Warsaw and Moscow towards Algiers and Aceh.

They've just beaten the Mamluks and have 191k now btw.
If you can't beat Ottos as France mid-late game then I don't know what to tell you.

To be fair, I had a game in 1.29 where the Ottomans beat my full merc front line, Age bonused, full offensive + full quality French troops by depleting my manpower reserves. Admittedly I could've prolonged the war by spending professionalism, but I wanted to get the A Decent Reserve achievement that run so I chose to take the L instead. Had to go revolutionary to crush them.

Their manpower looks kind of low. I would be saying pick your battles carefully to ensure they take higher casualties and grind them down.

Defeating the Ottomans is rarely difficult if you approach them right and are prepared for it. Annoying and grindy frustrating maybe, but not massively difficult in my experience. But they can't simply be steamrolled like most opponents at that point in a campaign.

I would never trust the ledger manpower because the AI is very happy the slacken recruitment standards.

A map would help a lot. But mostly it will come down to "play better next time".

None at all I am afraid, as clearly in your games they are an unstoppable juggernaut.

Iny games, if I wanted to stop them at this point I would be looking to ally everyone around them, to contest their naval control of the Eastern med, and the make sure that I wasn't loosing battles. Slowly push an army to Constantinople and capture one side of the straits and play games with naval control.

If I am playing France and planning to take on the Ottomans at some point I would start planning for it as soon as the opening conflict with England is resolved, if not earlier.

You can also simply wait until the lategame. The AI will pick many sub-optimal idea sets and run atrocious army compositions, meaning that once you've got your key military ideas online you should be able to crush them.

@klingonadmiral Sure, but... I can still start planning from much earlier. For example, one simple thing I can do is try to avoid collapsing the Eastern Europe powers before I am ready to contain the Ottomans directly: essentially maintain a balance of power there.

Well for starters:

1) You're not going to be able to engage them until at least 1600, nor would you want to. You have:
- Land you have to take back from England on the mainland and can expand further into the British Isles while the 'The War of The Roses' disaster is occurring in England
- Expand into Spain or make them your ally helping you take down England more easily/expand into Italy
- Expand into HRE with Burgundian Inheritance if you can
- Expand into Italy after they leave HRE

2) Expand your Industry and Defences. You have tons of Farmlands and Grasslands in the west and north coast for building space together with Forests, Hills and Mountains on your eastern borders for Forts. And you can easily afford them thanks to France's high development provinces.

3) Profit exponentially
