Why are the Mechs so out of scale / oversized?

I get the devs wanting the mechs to seem large and powerful, but the are completely oversized , nearly cartoonishly large in game.

Mechs are around 30 to 40 feet tall. So 3-4 stories tall.

Yet the in game mechs are well over 100 feet tall if you use roads, telephone poles, and buildings as reference.

Find it slightly jarring to be that large

The miniatures are just as ridiculously out of scale with the hexes in the tabletop game: a 10-12 meter tall 'Mech can barely stand in a 30 meter wide hex. Of course, that still doesn't make it "right". The vehicles are at least much closer to scale.

IIRC there are scale constants in the jsons. I think mechs are set at 1.25 and tanks at 0.75. I was considering tinkering with these but it will, at very least, probably mess up melee animations. The mech to environment scale doesn't bother me (tree growth depends on planet characteristics). Against buildings they do seem too big, but not sure by how much. It is the comparison to tanks that's really killing me. Also, the Leopard is so ridiculously huge compared to buildings. I think it may just be that buildings are too small for gamification.
