As an on-topic conclusion, I think we can say that many experts on the game play MP, but when they come on the Web they rather play a MP-game rather than going through the Boards to answer so many questions. :D

That is a very good point.

I don't play it because i have a modem conncection and a slow one at that. I can't get DSL here either or any HSI except satelite which costs a fortune, although i think they're laying down fiberoptics nearby...atleast i hope they are...that would be SWEET if they were and I could use them.
But that is why I don't play MP because I know how lag can kill my experience in less resource intensive MP games.

I live in NZ with a modem but that doesn't stop me from enjoying MP. Have you ever tried?

A very good analysis.

Being helpful and answering the same fundamental questions three years after the release of the game does tend to grow old. That is not to say that all threads in the EUII General Forum are rehashings of old threads and issues, of course, but a lot of them are and understandably so when the game continues to attract new players. And yet... How many times can one explain that inflation is not the mark of the beast and that 2500d (or more!) is a reasonable price for a manufactory in many cases (and support it with good mathematics) before it gets old?

The vicious infighting (read "gentle diplomacy") of MP discussions in ongoing games is quite often more interesting to participate in than discussing a technical issue that you feel (whether justified or not) that you understood well enough years ago.. The game engine and its rules can be understood, but human behaviour and hence diplomacy is ever enigmatic. :)

In my case, I'm somewhat interested, but (like Jinnai) I'm stuck on dialup connection, and also my schedule from one week to the next is highly variable. There really isn't any window of time I can committ to being available consistently, except for at night (like 1600-2200 California time) Monday-Friday, or perhaps Saturday mornings (but I'd have to be off by 1400) and I have yet to see a game that takes place during that timeframe.

I'll stop pausing when I'll be able to mentally figure out the cube root of 168,438.74 in less than 0.0003 µs. ;)

That is because you are a good and patient man, Isaac Brock. I have only, at best, half of those qualities.

With all the MP-veterans having a good day and trying to come over as helpfull and all ;) :p , I might as well ask the one question I've always wanted to ask about MP:

How the hell do you avoid attrition at the beginning of each month when you have several armies in the field (often at various parts of the world) without pausing and moving all of them at the 1st of each month? That's what I do in SP. :eek:o How can I, as Spain, fight simultaneously against the Portuegese and the French in Europe, America and Africa without seeing my armies (and fleets, for that matter) disintegrate due to the attrition caused by not being able to make the "move when the month ends and you're toast" dead line?

You don't.

The two well-known SP concepts of "no attrition at the end of the month" and "keep armies under the supply limit in provinces when fighting wars" are the first things to go when you face competent opposition instead of the AI. In MP, you are going to suffer horrible casualties to attrition. Live with it. On the positive side, you are also going to suffer horrible casualties due to combat, so you only really worry about attrition when moving a large army on an offensive through mountains in wintertime. :)

(Sure, taking low attrition is good, but the moment you let it dictate your tactical and strategical moves, you are firmly on the road to defeat)

Everybody else has the same problem. :) In other words, you try to minimize attrition when you have the time, but mainly concentrate on destroying your enemy's armies and navies or on outmaneouvering them. A 50/50 ratio of combat/attrition casualties is not unknown in MP.

Oh man. I hate it so much when my armies lose attrition when marching. When sieging, I'm fine with it, but marching... Brrrrrrr.

So, you're Russia and the Ottos declare war. Your armies are mainly in the north, where they just fought a war against Sweden or Poland or something. You just send them all to Volgograd and forget about them untill they arrive? If I'm ever going to try MP, I'll cry for the first 2 hours, because of all the troops I'll lose this way! :D

Oh, and war means no trading, right? I mean, no time for placing merchants and stuff. And can you make secret diplo deals (chat to only one/two players)? (Yeah, yeah, I know I said I wanted to ask just one question :p )

Some wars are so intense that no trading is possible. other wars are a bit more of the wait and see who moves, giving time to trade.

Yes
