I don't have the dlc, yet.

But it appears that they gave a day/night cycle with the patch. How is this the most important feature, when the zoning for tourism and leisure are behind paywalls?

Isn't the day/night basically cosmetics?

Not entirely cosmetic, it does have some meaningful impact on gameplay. I think people are overrating the value of day/night versus the other mechanics that were added, like prisons, leisure and tourism but it's pretty easy to explain why. Day/night change is clearly visible where the other changes that only come with the DLC have a less immediately visible impact on your city.

V1.2v0 patch free full game 6 months after your departure and is not cosmetic.
Add day / night cycle, more bars day / night budget, more day / night option in transport lines, more carcel in the police station.
The low crime this corrected: citizens demand rises and police stations soon found not. All this is fantastic. :)
However tourism and related passenger transport outside the city, no. It was and remains weak.

And behind the DLC arrives based primarity on crime and tourism, and new exclusive buildings and their specialization.
Crime ok, with jails and prisons and increased delinquency.
Tourism ko ..

Should be separate 1 or 2 weeks, great free upgrade to the payment DLC.
They would have seen tourism problem before launching the DLC.
These free vs paid DLC mixed carried confusion.

I think it is great. Having the day/night cycle folded into the base game allows them to expand upon it easily and in more depth in the future. If the day/night had been DLC only, it would be unlikely we would see much flushing out of it because it is not common that DLCs come out requiring other DLCs.

You have the option to disable the day/night cycle under options, so you are not forced to use it. ;)
Does disabling the day/night cycle keep the screen from being washed out?

If so, why can't the daytime in the day/night cycle be lit in the same way?

Wanting the game to look nice isn't the same as not wanting night time to happen. Quite the opposite, in fact, as night time is some of the prettiest stuff in gaming.

I have mine disabled, except for the occasional screenshots, it gives me an impression of being Sleazy, depressive, and downright offensive, sorry but I will never pay for the DLC, so shove it where the sun never shines.

The day & night cycle is meaningless & just cosmetic. I certainly wouldn't have purchased it & will have it turned off. The DLC itself does have good things in it on the other hand.

Once again akeela your not helping anyone, your being arrogant. It was clearly an issue with the day time colour and NOT the day/night cycle. ;)

You mentioned your problem's Phil V but It doesn't give you the right to be obtuse when ever someone mention's the free patch or DLC, I would think the dev's find you offensive and being british has nothing to do with it!

OP, Yea I don't think the day/night cycle is exactly the most important feature but it's more like Whiplash7x said it make is easier to add future expansions to all with out the need for them to already own the After Dark content. It's not a hefty price for the expansion and I'm sure it will go on a sale somewhere soon to make the value of it even better.

While I don't prefer to use it too much... when enabled it's not just 'cosmetic', it does come with effects on the underlying mechanics of various aspects of the game\system when enabled, so I feel like saying it's "just cosmetic" isn't a good fit and under values much of work that went into those changes.

That said it definitely was the type of update that needed to be in the base game if it was going to be added and I'm glad they went with that choice... not that I think they really had a choice anyway since would have been harder to make it just part of the dlc.

Turning of the cycle doesn't have a difference, they day time view, let's say noon or around noon - should look like a priori AD.

They changed the lighting in the game. Turning off the day/night cycle won't change that lighting, they have to patch it to change it or you have to get a mod that would change it.

I dont think people should compare what was free with what you can pay for to judge the value of the DLC, its a separate thing, they added alot to the game for free, that they didnt really have to, but I guess they consider it things that should be in the core, and also made a DLC which you can pay for at the same time.

Things maybe they had hoped could be in at release but just couldnt make it, maybe. And now we have a DLC that expands the game, purely optional,. And said we will have £10 for that,

Is it worth £10, I dont know, probably not, when you think an entire game is only about 3 times that, but when is DLC that value, you could say that for every game.

For £35 total its a bargain, If they had halved the content and made 2 separate DLCs at a £5 each I think people would be thinking, great this is just what I get for $5 every where else, I think the deluxe edition was an extra £5 for an extra 5 objects, you pay £5 for basically a few skins in many games games if you want.

Imagine if they had patched day and night close to launch or even a month ago, and then released a content DLC like everyone else does a couple of month later, would this conversation still exist...

What was free is what CO believe should be considered the base game, while we also have an extra content DLC we can buy. First of many we hope as well as chucking in a bit of free stuff, maybe not so much for free next time cos some people believe that somehow makes the DLC worth less.

No LUT will get the day time view to the trademark views of Skylines :/

^^ For the base game, no matter the price, only the city size should be a limiting factor. Yet there are all kinds of limits, like: you better not make bus routes or you'll hit the roads(!) limit faster and sooner.

Why a Cities Skylines map is twice the size of 9 tiles? Why for example northeuropefinal1 map says buildable area 74% when that's clearly not the case.

Well yes it's cosmetic, but I'd argue that it's also the most important part of the DLC. It's beautiful and it will be the most consistently noticed and enjoyed feature of the DLC. That being said, idk why that's supposed tyo be a bad thing.

I think the base game now if you are ready to upgrade v1.2.0
and not with the "After Dark". In fact this great free upgrade has been blurred, mixed with the DLC and pay comparisons and glitches.

Regardless of taste, details and mechanics of the game, most we can agree that just need to to fix the little issue of tourism.
Surely the next DLC not come accompanied by nothing special for the base game, at least nothing newsworthy.
