Why are my armies being destroyed in one short battle?

I had historical luck nations so it's not that.

I agree about army tradition and prestige but... again, it only gives morale. An army cannot be destroyed in only one battle at full morale because its opponent have more morale. It must have a huge shock or fire stat.

I don't know about that. It's Kachar, are they in the Indian tech group?

Edit : okay, there is definitely a bug somewhere, though I can't find where.

I have built my army back thanks to my 35 000 manpower and 15 000 mercenaries. My new 25 000 men army won the battle against the said 17 000 "terminator stack" without any problem now.
I'm steamrolling Kachar as I should have been able to do since the beginning.

Strange...

I checked, they have a better unit (indian arquebusiers). But still, now i'm winning again without any problem. I am far from the "two day battle where they have 0 loss and you lost 20 000 men".

And nothing has changed in my stats since the first defeat (morale, tech, maintenance, general).

I won't be able to post my save for bug report :/. I have advanced since the bug and I forgot that ironman saves are always overwritten automatically...

There's definitely something wrong here. I just got into a war with the Ottomans as Hungary very early in the game. They sent about 16k men after me so I split up my armies to avoid attrition and I figured that 21k men should be enough to kill the Ottoman army.

So I have my armies positioned and the Ottoman stack is sent after one of my armies. No problem. Just reinforce and 21k should do fine against 16k men, right?

Wrong.

In a split second my first 10k army is wiped. Literally in a second. When my 11k army arrives that one too vaporizes in a second.

I refuse to believe this is working as intended, because it makes no sense.
It's possible that I could've lost 21k vs 16k due to luck, yes, but that my armies vaporize in a second is just weird.

Okay after more playing this seems to be a statistical outcome of battles. Sometime my armies destroy the opponent, sometimes my armies gets destroyed. Mostly they just run away or shatter, but 1/10 is a massacre.

Any news on this topic?

I had this happen to me. Got wiped in a few days by Prussia with Russia. Even my buddy Sweden sent their 20k man to them thinking it would win. They attacked and got wiped in 3 days. No factor I can take into account could make this explainable. Prussia killed 160k men of mine in two weeks with 42k. Iron man...

Tech 8->9 is a unit upgrade, so that one level is a large power difference. Always remember that MIL power grows nonlinearly instead of gradually. Stacks usually get wiped because the battle ends in less than two phases. This can be caused by any number of power differences, primarily leaders/units/tactics/morale/discipline, which makes it a really opaque mechanic if you don't take meticulous notes.

Frankly, stack wiping is a bad mechanic. You shouldn't be able to wipe stacks except in extreme circumstances, full stop.

Are we sure it had nothing to do with optimal rations in the regiments? I.e. inf/cav/art ratios?
