Well I can't speak for Scotland (never played a game as any Scottish dynasty, oddly enough), but the British Isles are generally the easiest place to start due to their isolation. Ireland is a cakewalk and you can play at your own pace. Once you get past the 1066 invasion shenanigans, all you really have to worry about is conquering the other small realms and if you are Norway or William, maintaining your continental holdings. Saxon England is an especially stable and safe realm to play since I have never seen the continental factions don't have any de jure claims on your land, so you can slowly expand, build up your army, and Holy War the Muslims in North Africa and Spain to build up your realm. No HRE to potentially screw you over either. It is easy to become really powerful and best of all, you can play at your own pace.

I've only ever played as Ireland. It's fun to feel like I'm building a nation from below the ground up. Don't find it boring at all. England is my favorite place to play in EU 3 however.
I'm not obsessed with that area of the map at all.
I actually spend more time observing then actually playing. So I'm impartial to all areas of the map. If you're going to accuse someone of being obsessed with an area of the map, accuse the resident Byzantophiles

Nope, it's very much true in CK2 for some bizarre reason. Honestly, the extent of the Byzantophilia I see around here makes me want to burn Constantinople to the ground come TOG. Mind you, I'm also gonna burn Rome so I have an excuse to bust out my new fiddle.
I don't think you are right. I think the favorites are the ERE and the republics.
As for me, I don't play on the islands, I prefer ERE, the christian nations in the east (because I love struggle against the mongols, greatest fun), and I would like to play muslim nations, but they are boring because you can ignore other dynasties and I hate the decadence system. So you have to conquer, that's all.

My solution to wanting to play in the East was to make my own Catholic ruler in Persia and work my way up from an Infidel Satrap (Duke) in the Seljuk Sultanate to the Catholic Shahanshah of Persia.
As for the decadence system? Just go into defines.lua and disable all familial sources of decadence.
I don't do that because the game would be very easy with muslims without decadence. So the system needs a total reform. I hope the devs will do it in the future.
I have yet to play a full game in the Isles... I have a Byzantine game on my to-do list anyway.
It's not like AI Muslims conquer everything without decadence or like a human can't make ANY group extremely powerful.

Now more seriously I believe I'm the dude who played the counts of Geneva the most.
I've played several Byzantine positions. But the game tends to be more West-centric due to it's audience in terms of gameplay.
I've played Iceland (first ever place I played - pre The Republic. It's a good place for beginners) then moved on to the Scandavanian countries, then a really rough ride as the Kaiser of the HRE with bad traits (TONS of rebellions right there) then played the Byzantine Empire as Epirus (due to my liking for Pyrrhus of Epirus, expanded to Wallachia out of love for Vlad Tepes. I wanted to impale some people there) And finally a Syrian kingdom (conquered Jerusalem as England during a Crusade and got it as a kingdom. After a gavelkind split, became the Kingdom of Syria)
The majority of my games are usually in Scandavia although in Sol Invictus I chose Jorvik as a descendant of Ivar the Boneless. It's pretty obvious that this part of Sol Invictus was inspired by Bernard Cornwell's Uhtred books. ;P
Alans are pretty rough as is Wallachia. Especially Wallachia. You start out as Tengri sandwiched between an Catholic Hungary and a Greek Orthodox Byzantine Empire. AND all those Greek Orthodox Rurikids to your north.
Although being a pagan in Sweden is fun...the Swedish Catholic king is guaranteed not to like you as Eric the Heathen not only for religious grounds but for his title aspirations to the throne of Sweden too.

To be honest, over half of my games in CK2, EU3, and V2 have been played as central European nations.
All of my games have been played as Byzantine vassals.
I loathe Byzantium in this game, and enjoy destroying them from within (while simultaneously holding back eastern invaders and opportunists).

I've only been in the British Isles once, and that was as a Count in Isles, and went on to form Wales. I spend way more time in Northern and Eastern Europe or Africa. Maybe one time I'll play in England, but only to try and preserve the Saxon culture.
I'm not. I'm more into the Byzantines. But then I've played a Spanish house, currently playing a Frankish one, have played Italian, Norman invaders (of Sicily), and Venice. I played in England once so far. Not sure where my next game will be, but likely a Scandanavian one...

The Areas i usually play are Britannia, Prussia, Austria, or Carinthia/Apulia/Barcelona (Grouped together becuase I head south with all three instead of north). With the sole exception of playing one Bohemia game. I keep wanting to play a Flanders or Holland game but never have gotten around to it.
The Appeal behind the British Isles is very similar to the Americas in Victoria 2, There's one-two big kids on the block (Vicky has the US,Mexico and Brazil, Ck has Scotland and England) There's a segregated area where many early players can learn the game (Ireland-Ck2 Carrib/Latin America-Vicky) and for the most part will never be bothered or invaded unless the player does something drastic. You can generally spend the entire game isolated from every other nation and once united can easily fend off invasions from any nation in the game. (Once you learn some Naval Tactics you can beat the Byzantine Empire or the Mongols well enough.
