I thought not having an embargo interaction was a big thing for hoi4 as it fundamentally has no depth. Like the idea behind adding the whole civilian factory economy in place of money
If they're gonna be your enemy you embargo them ASAP and...that's it. It's not a fun, interesting or even very interactive feature for the embargoer or the embargoee.
Heck trade is incredibly forgiving and quite unimportant in HoI4 as is, to the extent Chromium is essentially worthless due to how little the AI uses it.

My personal conspiracy theory is the initial idea behind this DLC was gonna be the LoN but that got cut and now they're just low on things to put in the DLC so they resorted to Embargos and 'medals'

I assume it will be tied to world tension.
it is but that just leads to allied nations constantly checking how much WT Axis members have caused (as it's done on an individual level) and then pressing the button.
There's no strategy or gameplay in that it's even less of a feature than license production, as that can have a reasonable amount of depth to it

There's a fair amount of mechanics that work on that logic. Some of them are actually good

It's just another thing like declaring wars and joining faction. And frankly any extra diplomatic interaction is incredibly welcome

But an important thing: This argument only works on historical. Any alt path or mod you don't know who is going to be friend or foe, and this logic goes out the window

What kind of embargo are you speaking of? Ctrl+F shows no such a word. Is it some obscure picture having it as a name for focus? Then it would be yet another ad hoc magic under a fancy hood, rather than a new mechanic available to everyone within trade/diplomacy.

While I agree more is usually better it just feels lame to be adding what they said was an uninspiring part of hoi3 into the game without building on it in any way

It's on the steam store page, it's a diplomatic interaction everyone gets access to

To answer your question because embargo forces countries into drastic situations, one of the main reasons Japan attacked Pearl Harbor is because USA sanctioned them on oil for example.

There needs to be a way to enforce embargo adherence on other countries. Embargoing Japan as USA in this game won't accomplish much as they can just import from USSR, DEI or Venezuela. Embargoing Germany won't do anything as the Allies unless you can get Spain and Sweden to stop allowing them to import Tungsten.
