my thought was that if a player wanted to change their ideology as a major nation, they would (according to the www streams) need to have a civil war. since a civil war will probably take a fair amount of time, plus the time it takes to rebuild your wartorn country, you won't be ready for war until 39-40, giving you a severe disadvantage. i might just be wrong about how long it would take for a civil war and reconstruction to happen though, since the devs shown it yet.
So that Europa universalis, Victoria and Hearts of Iron can be chained in their timelinesToo bad though, that you can't load an endgame save from EU into victoria, and from Victoria to HOI
(I haven't played Vicky or EU though i did watch some gameplay on YT. This doesn't stop me from wishing that we could play a single campaign in those 3 games, by loading the map into the next game after enddate)
The reason for 1936 is because its the date when Germany openly disavowed the disarmament clauses on the Treaty of Versaille and went for broke on rearmament. That basically put her on the path towards either economic ruin or war... in essence, it's when some kind of war in Europe became nigh unavoidable.
That and the Spanish civil war many consider as the prelude of WW2.
Because WW2 started on July 1937, when China and Japan went to war.
I would have to disagree as do most historians. Germany's invasion of Poland on 1 Sept 1939 is the most accepted start date of WW2, but many historians argue it was the Japanese invasion of Manchuria in September of 1931.
So if you're going to use Japan's invasion of China in 1937, you way better off using the Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931 which is widely accepted as a WW2 Start date.
1936 is basically a nice balance between preparing for the war and not having to play a huge amount of time for things to kick off historically at least, and ahistorcial outcomes from that point are possible. Anything earlier would require more civilian aspects to the game to be interesting for countries other than Germany or Japan and it'd be less of a war game as a result, anything later and you're unable to influence the pre war strategies of your nation.
I have serious doubts that 1931 was "widely accepted" as the start of WW2
You could also argue that it started in 1919 with the Treaty of Versailles...
