Hello there !

Playing France GC'36, Vichy managed to be part of the Allies right from their creation, in June'40. I was so

Let me explain.
In June '36, I granted independence to Syria & Madagascar. Far far away, no manpower, no IC, no resources, and partisans in Syria ! So I thought "Let them have it, if that makes them happy !"

Fast forward, May '40. My oh-so-friendly German neighbour Adolf decides some sightseeing to France is in order, so he comes with tanks, planes,...
Got my a** kicked in the Low Countries & Northern France, & got Vichy-ed on June 18th, 1940.
I chose to accept, wondering if I could wrestle the control of my overseas colonies from the usurpators in Vichy.
So, Vichy France is created, my capital is re-located in Brazzaville, my forces disappear, and ... Vichy France joins the Allies !

I looked into the event files ; when Vichy France is created, it should leave any alliances, so... well... I'm clueless.

Any insights welcome !

PS: playing Hoi2 1.3a

At a guess... (don't have 1.3a here)
Since you released Madagascar and Syria they were your allies (or puppets at the least)
When Vichy is created, one of the events allies them to Madagascar or Syria.
Since Madagascar and Syria are in the allies, so is Vichy.

Like when the Germans were pulled into war with the U.S. because they were allied with Japan.

Do you mean in game or real life? In real life Germany was not allied with Japan, Hitler declared war on the US because he isn't the brightest bulb in the box.

I thought he did it in retaliation to the Japanese being Dow'd upon? Well, whatever, he screwed himself anyway.

Um, the Vichy France thing. I can see it as a problem if you want to get all your provinces back, yes. Good luck

Exact, thanks. I have found the culprits. Events 10000 and 10002 in vichy_france.txt.
Is some kind of debug possible, like a NOT{ alliance = { country = SYR country = ENG } } into the triggers ?

Well, yeah, can't really get to war against my fellow allies, can I ? And I can't leave this alliance either !

Didn't play long after noticing that, as I was quite pissed off. But GER and ITA didn't seem to attack.

Don't they get a NAP set up between them?

He hoped in return, the Japanese would declare war upon the Soviets.
