I love Crusader Kings, but I think it will be a long time before we see Crusader Kings 3. Crusader Kings 2 still looks fine (HoI4 looks better with more stuff going on on the map, but it's not a huge jump) and has years of extra development sunk into it. Crusader Kings 3 would have to start with significant less features and take quite some time to catch up with the worthwhile features from DLCs.

To justify Crusader Kings 3 it would have to have some bigger changes in the concept or a jump ahead in the supported technology. Who knows, a VR Crusader Kings where you sit in your virtual throne room with a map of Europe before you might not be so many years in the future.

So I'd rather see Paradox bring Victoria with part 3 to the graphics and handling level of their other grand strategy games and then expand the series with a fifth game: Cold War or Rome/antiquity.

If we're getting a VR Crusader Kings then I would hope that we're not going to be trapped at a map but able to interact with courtiers face to face and so on.

What would be the reason for a ck3? Since ck2 is far bigger than any new release could be a new ck would be not as great (quite literally) as ck2 is. So the only sensible reason is a engine upgrade wich adds a lot of power the current engine has not and can not be upgraded into. As far as i understand there are no discrete versions of the clausewitzengine anymore so it will take a while until the engine is far enough progressed until ck3 becomes sensible. And why wait for a ck3 which likly feel bareboned at the beginning when you could play ck2 instead.

Yes. I'd love to get into the CK series on the ground floor so to speak.
Still got find time to figure out what the hell I'm doing in CK2... but I'll get there... probably....around the day CK3 is released.

Casual mentions of an hypothetical CK3 on Sunday by Doomdark and that guy that did the first presentation about selling your idea to Paradox.
Add to that the fact that they will soon end the development of CK2 DLCs, and that Doomdark is working on a secret project, I wouldn't be surprised if they announced CK3 next year.

I got the impression that they dropped hints about CK3 at PDXCon.

Overhaul of the character system to allow for more interactivity and roleplay between characters.

Yeah but simply that, an overhaul of the character system isnt enough to justify such huge task (thats what i would think at least ) it needs to be a killer feature that is one which makes you think wow ck3 man i dont know how i could ever have played ck 2 without [insert feature]. And a character system overhaul at least that unspecific isnt it. And i do think they simply miss that killer feature.

And i belive they will reevaluate the statement about ck2 end of dev cycle and will extent it further since the figures show that there is still enough demand

Well, what I meant with overhaul of the character system is allowing you to proactively interact with your family (something like CK2 meets the social parts of the Sims)

Well, what I meant with overhaul of the character system is allowing you to proactively interact with your family (something like CK2 meets the social parts of the Sims)

well i ignore the fact that ck2 meets sims is only an elevator pitch and no real concept for a feature. the idea of a more fleshed out social interaction system for ck actually sounds really good, but the problem is: its just a broad idea, it sounds good but so do many marketing pitches. its just to broad of an idea, you first have to figure out at least a broad idea how it should look and then evaluate what your engine must be able to provide that and then you can look into making ck3 (assumed that just that is enough to ck3)

But i do think that just that isnt still enough to be a real killer feature. Think of it this way. Ck2 with broad proactive interpersonal interactions but everything else is just version 1.0, would it be better than version 1.[whatnumber are we now?] without the social interaction feature? if the answer is yes then well go for ck3, but i dont think it is.

Well, broad ideas and elevator pitches are the only thing really worth our time, unless we are trying to apply for a job at Paradox. I'm not going to spend a lot of time drawing up design documents for random people on the net, it's exhausting enough to explain things in normal posts.

Also, we all know what the other killer feature of a CK3 would be: China and Japan. Also, interface improvements (like solving icon clutter).

I would love a CK3 with a new engine that allows more things. Like a bigger map, CK worldwide! And less hard-coded things, so we could have more interesting mods.

PS: Oh... I seriously need to learn how to change my name, I don't think that unmerged(5907332) is a cool name...

PS2: Yay! I did it!

Depends on too many factors.
If they made modding easier by completely overhauling some of the poorly designed parts (such as map modding), I'd definitely be interested. But on the other hand, you can count me out if they add more hard-coded features.

And it really should have proper error-checking. Currently you can get just about any code running, no matter how mangled and broken it is. The kind of code that wouldn't compile in any proper language. And the error logging is lacking, to say the least.

Yeah and integreated sengoku would indeed be a good feat. and ofcourse you are right that it isnt feasable to make a good concept of design, but in not doing so you also can miss quite easily that between a broad pitch and an actual design concept that works there is many steps to take. and to say well do that with x and y and to actually make a coherent design out of this are two different things. And i simply think that no one at pds who actually does this job, has figured out how a ck3 should look like. and i can imagine why
