If Polyperchon is playable I will play him as the ultimate challenge.

By our start nobody quite knows where Polyperchon was. He was lost to the mists of history. Nonetheless I would not be surprised if he made an appearance in some form, somewhere, but he is not in power of a state and playable :)

I want to play the Achaean League, annex the now obsolete city-states like Sparta and Athens and then import Peloponnesian hegemony to the rest of the world.

I will play as Carthage to protect antiquity from Rome's christianity destroying the true european culture.

To be fair, I don't think being Carthage really changes anything unless Jesus and Christianity get butterflied away altogether. The Punic religion would have lost to Christianity all the same. Even with Christianity persecuted and Paganism under state support the former was slowly gaining ground. Once the state support was withdrawn paganism simply collapsed.

Then I shall mod him and make him playable. Nothing shall stop me. :D

Are you sure about his situation ? I recall he managed to hold onto the Peloponnese with Corinth and Sicyon as his strongholds until his death. I will check my book written by Edouard Will. The starting date is 304 BC right ? Later it is normal to not see him in the political melee.

Edit : after checking it seems Polyperchon only held in Messenia before his disparation by old age. At least that is what Edouard Wil says in his book titled "Histoire Politique du Monde Hellenistic". It is an old book so I would not be surprised if you found contradictory informations in more recent work. :)

Sicyon and Corinth were held by a general of Ptolemy called Cleonides during the Salamis campaign according to Plutarch. After Demetrius returned to Greece from Rhodes (around the time the game starts) he liberated them but Plutarch does not say if it was from the same general.

Without Rome, Christianity would never became important because it would never be the official religion of the biggest Empire in western Europe.

So, without an empire, (because Carthage would never expand so far east), maybe there will be no christianity....and without it...maybe we would have no Islam either.

So.......

Hellenic/pagan Europe, best Europe.

Why would Carthage never expand so far east? The city is located only about 100km west of Rome and actually has it's ethnic origins in that very east. Expedition to save Tyre had been planned only few decades before this game starts. And couple of successful wars against Egypt would already put it at the gates.

Ultimately the problem with paganism was the lack of organization and lack of moral message (and indeed the morality of pagan myths was often contrary to the values of the societies that believed in them). Yet these people were on the whole very religious and believed that worship of the gods was the proper thing to do. In essence there was a religious power vacuum that Christianity was well poised to fill. You can't really eradicate Christianity, the Romans sure tried, and in turn paganism doesn't need much if any official disdain to start losing ground. Christian Rome had anti-pagan laws from early date but they were often unenforced, in any case Rome never persecuted pagans even remotely to the degree it once did Christians. In that kind of imbalance only thing it needs is one successful ruler who decides to steer the ship on different course, then paganism comes crumbling down fast.

Someone has to reunite Alexander's empire, someone has to yell "stop poking your brother's eye" and fulfill his next war goal which was... CARTAGO DELENDA EST.

He'd most probably interact with the Romans as a consequence. Maybe to crush them for pesting some Greek states of Italy or ally them to help him put those very Greek states under his complete control, as Calabria would be a very important base of operations. Maybe we wouldn't have any Pyrrhic victories and no Roman Empire if that was the case.

The game start makes both Rome and Carthage stronger and tougher to beat, especially since you have to beat those vast spin-off empires, but it's a nice aim for the game. Alexander would have crushed Carthage easily as they had no real naval threat at the time and their army was no match. But with several decades passing, Carthage is a big time player in IR.
Antigonos as someone said, or Egypt, should be able to pull this off quickly enough if they don't have other problems.

Apart from the more obvious choices such as Rome, the Greek States etc I am personally quite interested in playing Atropatene and Parnia.

Atropatene was an Median/Iranian state that existed mostly independently of the Seleucid Empire. They ruled what was the upper half of the de jure realm of Media and the Seleucids held onto the lower half. I am curious to see if they conquer all of Media from the Seleucids if they will be able to form Media itself and then go on to form Persia should they conquer enough territory.

Parnia is one I am interested in playing too since they are also an Iranian tribe who historically went onto the form the Parthian Empire which is something I expect they will be able to also do in Imperator: Rome. The Parthian Empire was the principle rival of the Romans up until the 3rd Century AD and their unique use of horse archers made them a force to be feared.

I have chosen these mainly Iranian nations as recently I have taken an interest in the history of Ancient Persia and really look forward to seeing what options there will be for that region in the game, principally what formable nations there will be, how their religion (Zoroastrianism) will work and any other unique features empires of that culture will have available to them.

I know a possibly obvious option would be the Seleucid Empire which I do plan on playing at some point, but I would rather play a nation that is native to that region such as the ones I mentioned, as the Seleucids are Hellenistic and I would rather play Macedon or Sparta for that particular experience.

Macedon or a Middle-Eastern nation will be what I'm interesting in playing. Myself making a Greco-Persian empire controlling the silk road and the Mediterranean sounds cool.

Might also play as one of the Greek city states like Corinth or Thebes!

Corinth was a garrison town for the successor states until it was annexed liberated by the Achaean League. Thebes as city-state does not exist in the start, though it's presumably the capital of the Boeotian League.

In general, the city states of the classical period took very much a backseat in this (Hellenistic) period, replaced by federal leagues arising outside the traditional centers of power in Greece. Only Sparta retained some independent significance.

I strongly believe that playing as an island minor would be the best non-Diadochi Greek save. Which pretty much means being Rhodes or one of the Cretan minors, though iirc there are some other options as well.
