Germany, then the UK, or some other major power. Because these minor country expansions mean little to nothing in what I thought was a WWII simulation. Most minors do not and should not have the power to greatly affect the course of the war. Turkey can have a major effect if they choose a side, but they already could do that before the expansion. Just my opinion.

And yet, I will buy it readily, in the vain hope that my financial contributions will keep the team fixing the glaring flaws (front and supply system) in the game and one day make it playable for me again.

I personally can't stand just playing Majors. A WW2 simulation would get so boring, always seeingthe Axis losing and losing, never actually having any fun gameplay to it. I'm happy that we have a sandbox to play in as it gives us so much more things to do. You might as well just call a Hoi4 simulator Allies Win 2.0. Lol

I would say Turkey, but I've played them quite a few times already, so maybe Greece. Holding off the Axis until the end of the war would be an interesting challenge.

But... this is a WW2 simulation. With all due respect, I don't understand why anyone thinks this is a sandbox game? Sandbox games allow the player to create/do anything they want. Well, you can't take over the world as Denmark (unless you just totally abuse the flaws of the AI). Play Denmark in a competitive MP game and then you can judge if this is a sandbox game or a WW2 simulation.

The fact that you can try to influence the direction of WW2 as a minor is awesome, and I am glad they included this option. But in reality not many minor countries could have much of an effect on the war at all. Historically a major country like France had a hard time exerting much influence on the outcome of the war.

Nonetheless, I find that the different reactions by the other major/minor powers is what adds to the flavor of each play through of the war for me. For instance, as the Germans sometimes I go through Spain, Africa, close the Suez, through the Middle East, and then attack the USSR or even into India. Sometimes I do an invasion of the UK. Sometimes I do a vanilla 1941 Barbarossa, or a 1942 Barbarossa, or a 1940 Barbarossa, or attack right after Poland in 1939. Sometimes I attack the Scandanavian countries. Sometimes I attack through the Balkans and play games with Turkey. Sometimes I focus on CIC, MIC, or a combo of both, subs, a surface fleet, fighters, CAS, Strat bombers, armor, infantry/artillery, etc. I frequently do combinations of all of these production and combat strategies. Each is a totally different experience and has different degrees of success. Depending on the abilities of the AI, I've played the same strategies several times and those even end up playing out completely differently.

However, there is no wrong way to play if you are having fun.

I only thing that bothers me is PDX giving "enhanced" powers to minor countries for the sake of making sandbox players happy because they want to take over the world playing as a tiny country. Often this is a nation that had little/no impact on the events of the 1930's-40's. The power creep I have seen with some minor countries messes with game balance because the AI for the major powers is still expected to execute the war to some extent for you to engage with, whether you are playing as a minor or a major combatant.

In the end I will just keep hoping the game improves with each release.

The Imperial Federation can be formed with any ideology except for Communism.

Cool, an uncited assertion lacking in nuance and explanation.

This is how the UK tree works: You have your political branches where you can flip ideology under A Change in Course, and you also have your colonial branches where you can either build up the empire and (eventually) form the Imperial Federation, or you can decolonise. The communist branch under A Change in Course is softly tied to decolonisation, in that if you don't fully decolonise within two years of flipping communist a civil war will break out. Because the decolonisation tree is mutually exclusive with the tree that leads to the Imperial Federation, the wiki glosses this as it being impossible to form under communism. However, this is strictly false. There is absolutely nothing to prevent you from taking the entire colonial reinforcement tree alongside the communist tree, beyond the simple threat of civil war.

But sure, go ahead and take a single sentence on a wiki as absolute truth without bothering to do even a cursory investigation.

Except i have not ever seen an AI minor nation be a problem. It merely allows human players variety that doesnt affect anything else. I've not ever seen the AI Portugal do a damn thing except always losd their civil war hahahaha.

Plus this isnt a simulation as if it was. The game would be scripted a certain way. Germany losing everytimem. That's why i say it's more sandbox as you can pretty much do anything. World conquest. Silly shenanigans like having 100+ nuclear reactors and a stockpile of 500+ nukes and dropping them on a country without a care cause you can. Or forming these nations for the fun of it. That's sandbox.

My issue was, Vichy france was never formed in my game so the brits overran from the africas into Turkey, so I was stuck esp when the germans and the italians overran the supply. I ran out of manpower as well. This strategy while skillfull requires everything to go EXACTLY right. He also did this on a different build of the game. Romania actually performs better in this current game. I did -exactly- as Feedback did, but Romania holsd off the 40W very easily not to mention, he doesn't have to deal with the massive damage to manpower that resistance does. Massive to Greece that is. Resistance nueters smaller nations sadly. I am hoping that greece is playable and this achievment will actually be easier to nab with their focus tree being put in, but I don't have any hope for it.

Edit: Just had my tenth try to do this damn achievment. Tenth in a row. I'm done. Nothing works. Everythign goes wrong.

I can't remember when or how I did it, but I think I allied with Germany and then pulled an order 66 on Italy with the aim of holding territory first and foremost. From there I must have been strong enough to beat everyone else, maybe I did some other shenanigans like justify against Finland or join the allies? Can't remember. I'm sorry if you've already tried that or if my description is too vague. If it sounds promising I might be able to load up the save and take a look.

It was quite annoying though, because after I had formed Byzantium the peace deal happened, and for some reason Turkey were given Istanbul and nothing else...

On the subject of who I'm going to play as I'd probably go for Turkey since the Kemalists look pretty flexible. However I mostly play modded for performance (Custom version of Magna Europa), and I think that mod is missing quite a bit of DLC- and alt-history content, so we'll see.

From what I recall it was patched out gradially. I looked up some photos I sent to a friend and my run was in february this year. So unless I downgraded that should be in Man the Guns, right? And I must have either joined the Allies or left the Axis, because the US puppeted Turkey in Istanbul.

But to steer the conversation back on track, at the very least failure to get the achievement should be more flavourful with the new focuses! Might have to give it a second go once I'm done with Turkey.

This is true. Im excited nonetheless for Greece and Turkey. Just Because their formable gives them a bigger chance to world conquest compared to Bulgaria. Then again Bulgaria might just get it due to that byzantium leader

So actually all 3 of these trees look interesting. I just need to get my hands on them to find out just how useful theyll be to me.
