Who are these people and why are they playing this game?

I am glad that different player levels have been able to pre release stream. While they guy at Hyper RPG was way to overexcited about everything. I really like NGNGtv (both) and the exposure with CohhCarnage playing has really made the wait more difficult. This piqued my sons interest , and brought back old times of playing the tabletop back in 85. It got me quoting old rules and stats while he asked all those questions. Luckily moving to a new house will help keep my mind occupied during this last bit of wait. This game looks to be quite the gem.

The big question is how they all keep getting Dekker killed. Some secret conspiracy?

I find it hilarious, watching the VOD of Sean Lang's play (Link) how people were upset at how bad Cohh was tactically. As I said, we sort of all have our times when we derp.

Wrong way around. Why are there no people good at games who stream, one should ask? Or maybe there are those, they're just not popular . . .

It is very, very difficult to record and play competently at the same time. I don't think most people appreciate how much time they spend pausing to puzzle over tough choices, or reloading mistakes, or tabbing out to check meta information on a wiki to help fill-in their limited knowledge.

Streamers can't do that, and have a significant amount of their mental load dedicated to making the stream entertaining on top of not being having typical advantages most gamers take for granted.


I'm really, really good at Stellaris & XCOM 2 compared to most streamers, but I also take literally ten minute pauses to assess difficult situations and consult either a spreadsheet or a wiki if I have trouble remembering a crucial piece of information. I'd be terrible to watch play.

Yup. After listening to Chuggaaconroy about the "Let's Play curse" and some other people who talked about how splitting their mind to be entertaining and focus on the game made them good at one but not the other . . . I know I couldn't do the commentary. The play? Completely could, though I doubt I'd be capable of really recording a match in HiDef. (And nobody wants to see it outside of 4K video, that's just crazy talk.)

I found it very interesting to watch bcs the Guy (Cohh i guess) Streaming had no experience and played the game like a learning beginner Player would do and that makes it a very pleasant Show as there is nothing staged or artificial and gives a way better overwatch what it may become as a game and i am pretty pleased if not very excited about what i see!

I get that, I used to watch until dawn with jesse cox, because I was interested in the story, but didn't want to buy the game myself (or play it). My question is, why would anyone want to watch the whole stream and then still buy the game?

People watch movies more than once, read books several times, listen to the same music album over and over again.
Playing a game several times, or watching someone else play it for that matter, is no different.
Besides, watching someone else play is not really the same as playing/controlling it yourself.
Also, some will watch these streamers and youtubers because they enjoy the person, not the game.

As its always been, we who are getting older will have growing difficulty understanding the trends of the young.
