One of the screenshots on that German website gave what I assume is the game-end screen at the end of 1836. Of course, someone could have sneaked in or dropped out during 1836, but if not the initial great powers are:

Britain
Russia
France
Turkey
USA
Denmark
Netherlands
Sweden

I would have expected to see Austria & Prussia in there, and certainly wouldn't have expected to find Denmark, but there goes. We shall see...

Wasn´t that screen a hall of fame?

Not if you mean the highest scores from all their games - at least I don't think so.

I've always assumed that that screen is what you get when you finish a game, showing the final top eight powers. Since they only seem to have played a couple of months to get screenshots it's unlikely to have changed much from the top 8 at the start of the game.

How do you know that there are 8 and not 11 (as the number of slots in the Grand Campaign selection menu)?

Ottoman Empire

All fine except Mexico and Sweden. Surly there were more important nations. Yeah yeah, Paradox is Swedish, but gimme a break!

Personally, I would have to give it a guess...

1) UK (they were the largest global power)

2) Russia (They were in the midst of the best time in Russian History)

3) France (I know they were just beaten, but, that was well over 15 years ago, France is definintly a major player if played right. You want Strassbourg and Lorraine Prussia? You come take it, if you dare!)

4) Austria-Hungary (Extremely large both +/- too much diverisity to make it work, would like a new Byzantine Empire though)

5)Prussia (Had the worlds most advanced Military, though, its territory still sucked.)

6) Belgium (If the Dutch try to mess with me, I will start throwing chocolate, and it will not be pretty)

7) Sweden (I want a comeback, RETAKE FINLAND!)

8) Ottoman Empire (they were still pretty strong)

9) USA (although they had recently beaten Britian, they were still realitively weak on the global scale)

Belgium is the 6th greatest power in the world?!!

And we beat Britain in the revolution with a little help from France, Spain, and the Netherlands. If you think we beat Britain in the War of 1812...well it was a victory of sorts but since we didn't drive them out of Canada...or achieve any of our other objectives it cant really be considered a victory. Impressment ended, but then so did the Napoleonic Wars so the reason for Impressment also coincidentally ended as well.

War of 1812? Is that when the whitehouse was burned down?

US attacks Canada, British troops and Canadian Militia Rout US troops...Invade US, US eventually beat them back, war ends.....

I don't know about you, but i wouldn't call that a victory.

The US did, after all, start the War. And to be victorious i would assume that the goal for starting the war would have to be fulfilled....not being invaded and luckily beating someone off.

fair enough if the British had attacked the US first....

Sweden probably has shitloads of events to fiddle with, Paradox probably researched Sweden like hell to find things.

'King Gustavus was a lovely little boy, and one day decided to build a toy boat to float in the moat:)D ) but he couldn't decide on the colour this boat should be'

option A) a Blue and gold clipper ship.

Option B) a Blue and gold Man O War.

Option C) He loses interest and takes up croquet.

bit confused here, are we voting for the top starting nations that come up for the grand campaign? or the worlds greatest powers at the start of vicky?

for starting countrys i think Japan will probably make it in the line up. Russia, Prussia, Austria, Britain, Maybe USA, i don't think Sweden will be in the starters though.

Didn´t thousands of swedes flee the country because of starvation and bad economy?

Well, compared to Britain, France, Belgium and Germany it was poor and backwards, but not really compared with the other nations, such as Spain, Italy and Austria (I'm talking per capita here), and the industrialization started in the late 1840s/beginning of 1850s. The army and navy was indeed a shadow of what it had been, but OTOH the at least the army had been among the very best in Europe, and arguably _the_ best during times. The population boom and the subsequent poverty and lack of land played the major role in the emigration. The Swedish soil isn't very fertile, and couldn't support such the growing population.

Anyway, it surprised me a lot to see Sweden in the top ten at the beginning, but when I thought about it for a while, it isn't that far-fetched, at least not when you think that Norway is included in Sweden (with it's huge and growing merchant marine - although it didn't grow really big until the latter part of the century). My list would look like this though:

Britain
France
Russia
Prussia
Austria
Belgium
Netherlands
Ottoman empire
Spain, Sweden or USA

Sorry but its the truth. Particularly, massive loans from France and the Netherlands (maybe also Spain, I can't remember that part), and the timely arrival (and above average performance) of the French Navy prevented the British from resupllying Cornwallis by sea at Yorktown. If the British were ably to reinforce or resupply him from the sea the seige would have been unwinnable, but with his support lines cut Cornwallis had no choice but surrender. And a good thing to, because the Frogs were looking to sell us up the river if the war dragged on too much longer :D

EDIT: War of 1812 was about a draw. The Americans had to concede the British presence in Canada, but the US navy performed MUCH better than anyone had thought and Jackson drubbed the Brits at New Orleans (too late to effect the peace treaty though) pretty much ending any lingering thoughts that the US was not able to defend itself against a 'World Power'

True :D Neither side was terribly enthusiastic about the war. Once it became appearant that Canada wasn't easy pickings the war ceased to really be worth the expense and trouble for the Americans, and the Brits were just sick of fighting in general.
